A Suggestion For Panther Balance

The problem with panthers are that they are able to push and when they get low on health they are able to retreat at the same speed.

Like when the SU-85 had the same reverse speed as its forward speed when it was in its focused sight ability it was regarded as OP because you could not flank around the tank destroyer with a tank.

I've been playing War Thunder for awhile and I've noticed that even though the panther has a nice forward speed its reverse speed is slow.

My suggestion is to make the panther have the same speed forward but a slower reverse speed.
Blitzkrieg would still work but at a slower speed when used in reverse. So the German player could turn around using its forward speed but they would be exposing their rear armor in the process.

The SU-85 still has the same reverse speed as forward speed. The engine doesn't even allow a different reverse than forward speed. The SU-85 isn't OP anymore, but that has nothing do with its reverse speed.

Meant when SU-85 was in focused sight it had the same reverse speed, updated post.

The balance forum must be really hard to find today.

Pretty much all tanks IRL had a reverse speed which was a fraction of it's forward speed, i.e. the M4A1 Sherman can go 40-50 km/hour on open field in forward but only 5-6 km/hour in reverse. A dedicated reverse-drive gearbox with as many as it has for forward-drive would take up way too much room in the tank.

But realism < balance in CoH2, even if it means warp-drive vet 5 panthers reversing at like 70km/hour on an open road.

Game engine wont allow it. Just remove Blitz from the Panther and give it secure mode...

If they can detect a reverse movethen they can probably code this. Whenever you use the reverse hotkey specifically then your speed overallis lowered.

. Ya you could probably bypass this by clicking behind the vehicle but think of that as a reward or something

What?? No way.

I would say remove the accuracy modifier.

I was joking about the secure mode part. But not the Blitz part. Why should the Panther be the fastest tank in the game by far, with the highest armor value of any Medium tank, plus the highest HP pool of any medium tank, PLUS the Penetration of constant HVAP Jackson rounds?

You remember when the Panther nerf first took place in vCOH2? That was for a reason. Then they simply reverted all the nerfs including to Blitz. Soo soo silly they should have just increased the Panthers craptastic ROF.

But we are back to need for speed adamantium Panther once again...

Honestly, I am fine with the reverse speed of both Panthers.

In my opinion dealing with and countering a Panther (even with Blitz) is less hard than countering a damned Tiger I/II sitting on a fuel- or victory-point.

Edit: And I don´t say that because I like that tank regarding Avatar and Signature. :D

You think? They cant really out run a P47 or chase after a Jackson or SU85. The Panther can do all these things. I loathe me a Panther :P Not even engine damage can slow it down enough if it gets on a road these days.

You might be right that it is not fair that a Panther can escape that way.

But if a Ost player (e. g.) goes Panther, it will appear after an adequate time for a U.S. or Soviet Player to counter it or even operate against it. Goin T4 (ergo Panther) and not goin Tiger I is in fact pretty risky regarding Ressources and cost efficiency.

But not if the enemy is OKW.

So OKW's panther timing is off...

(Asides from problems in Ost teching)

Yes this is true. But thats a problem with the Tier being WAY overpriced. Not the performance of the Panther. Which is why its a no brainer for OKW in 1v1.

Agreed, Blitz for OKW even at a Vet1/5 Panther really seems overpowered regarding the factions advantages. *checked Veterancy Guide again*

Well yes, OKW is pretty discussable and that seems to be a neverending story, if we will not face some balance patches after this bug patch.

Yeah I don't think you're getting it. When SU-85 is in spotting mode, its general speed is affected, not just its reverse speed. The game engine doesn't allow affecting reverse speed only, it's just not possible. So even though I agree with the idea (in fact I'd like all tanks to have slower reverse speed than forward speed), it's never going to happen.

If they introduced such a thing then hopefully for all tanks and not just for the Panther. I see no reason why the Panther should be the only tank with such a disadvantage.

If your opponent is spamming Panthers get AT guns and AT grenades and laugh as he tries to use a Tank Hunter to kill infantry. Seriously there is really not all that much a panther can do about massed infantry, even a large amount of Zooks will fuck it up hard if you hit somewhere other than the front armor.

A person who over extendeds with Panthers is an idiot, and you should punish him with a nice AT grenade to the rear and some ZiS love.

I've been playing War Thunder for awhile and I've noticed that even though the panther has a nice forward speed its reverse speed is slow.
War Thunder is the most Russian biased game out there. Matching T-34s with Panzer IIIs for "historic authenticity" and in contrary matching Panther tanks with T-44s and T-54s, ME-262s with Mig-15s from the 1950ies because aforementioned "historic authenticity" only applies as long as Russians don´t lose out. Hardly a good example of how to balance Panthers.

In CoH2 the Panther is currently perfectly balanced. Previous patches showed us how useless it can become if it is turned down (even slightly).

It needs mobility as it lacks the range of other tank destroyers. With 60 range one could consider giving it less reverse speed.

So better don´t touch the Panther.
