What do you think of it now they removed unit targeting and nerfed the range in exchange for being able to ignore geometry?

Personally I think they made it even less useful, if you ask me Relic should either revert the changes or buff the range by about 30%. The unit isn't even useful against a ZiS wall anymore since you need to practically drive up to point blank and aim for 4 seconds to hit anything

Yes, propably only Barton. And sometimes, I using it in troll games in 3v3 or 4v4

The Sturmtiger is trash. It is impossible to get to vet 5 in a typical match, extremely expensive and comes at a time when Allies are usually spamming vehicles, extremely long reload time and very short range. Its vet 1 grenade ability is pretty useless as well.

I use it for LOLz when I am playing for shitz and giggles, hardly a competitive unit.

Personally i like the change from a gameplay perspective. Sniping whole units and medium tanks by firing from the fog of war felt kinda cheap, altough that was the only way that made it somewhat viable in a competetive setting.

Sturmtiger has 40 range, "point blank" is a tad exaggerated.


Still, the tank undeniably remains a niche unit and shares the same problem the Ostwind or Brummbär have: There is no need for a infantry or support weapon killer if generalist tanks fulfill the same job almost equally effective. I think the aoe damage of allrouder-tanks in combination with the tighter squad AI is way out of control and needs to be addressed first to make room for specialists.

Theoretically you can one-shot medium tanks, which is huge, but then there is the problem with death crits. They simply should not happen, at least with this weapon. Every "normal" tank has the chance to give chase and finish a tank off, but not this one.

If I need a break from 1v1 I hop into 4v4 as OKW and build them as troll units.

I think I used it competitively once, a game on Trois points had devolved into a battle over the middle VP. In order to keep me from taking it, the opponent had to have a defense around the point. The sturmtiger was able to shoot across the river from safety, allowing me to continually retake the point with little to stand in the way.

I got it to vet 3.

All in all, a useless unit. A stuka would have performed better for me for way cheaper. Again, its one of the problems with OKW. The all purpose units are infinitely better than a specialist unit. (Why sturmtiger when I could get a panther?, why flak when I could get luchs in 3 extra minutes, IR halftrack only good on team games, etc...)

The thing seems broken now. It often doesn't shoot where you target at, but at at a point far closer to your tank than you aimed. I first thought it is a bug that is related to uneven terrain (when I shoot from an elevated position the shot always landed directly in front of my Sturmtiger), but that issue seems to happen sometimes even if there is no noticeable height difference.

It was also said that it can shoot through all world objects now but this is also not true because certain things like walls still block the shots.

So yeah, it is definitely worse than before the changes, because it is probably even more unreliable now and has less range.

Poorly designed unit, and now niche beyond belief. Hitting medium tanks is cool, but why not just build a panther for slightly more?

The Sturmtiger is trash if your are horrible at micro, but there is probably not a better blob deterrent in the game than it is.

Just raise the gun and make blobs retreat, don't even need to fire a shot to keep the enemy on the run.

a bit like the Croc from vCoH. Hardly ever usefull, but a lovely unit. And it is always fun if it hits the field. I love it.

Would be fine if it could track units like before the nerf, since one shotting units out of the fog feels cheap and shows no skill.
But then again we have the b4, so who knows what relic understands under balance =)

Even with decent micro it's trash, and against a decent player, with a perfect shot you will end up wiping a single unit which could be done with by a grenade or even Ubers.

You can wipe several squads at once because if you sight for it he won't really have that much warning it's coming. Not to mention the fact it blows up crew weapons.

If you are not using it conjunction with your infantry your doing it wrong obviously, it's excellent as bait/damage soaker as well as a great blob deterrent.

The Sturmtiger needs its prepatch 45 range back and maybe a small fuel cost reduction.

ATM there's no point in using it unless you know you've already won.

one of my favorite units and inherently very, very, very hard to balance. should not have been a standard unit, especially on OKW. lots of fun though, and very much a psychological game like dow2 nades.
