Yesterday me and Chukonoku were talking about the worst unit so I decided to make a poll about. I took the liberty of creating a shortlist by choosing 3 units for each faction but I think it contains all the worst unit contenders.
My thoughts on all the units if you're interested (2v2 perspective)
My vote is for the m21 MHT. Please post your considerations or if I forget to include a unit. My plan is to update it every time there has been a patch and we played for a couple of weeks.
I think it would be better to work the other way round, which of these units kinda fills a niche no matter how bad it does.
M21 MHT is slow-firing but it still has useful phosphorus shells- not enough to make it a good, or even decent unit, but it comes in handy in a pinch
Wolverine I'd say is pretty alright too, i've seen a bunch of games casted where it put in good work that a Jackson wouldn't be able to. It's just the OKW shrecks that give it so much trouble, otherwise its very similar to the Puma
M3 assault group is expensive, but gives access to demo charges which can be worth their weight in gold... sometimes
SU76-useful vs the Luchs, some people still use this to great effectiveness (namely Redwings)
Partisans- pretty awful.
Irregulars- also pretty awful
Ostheer sniper- no matter how easily it dies, it's still a sniper and fills a role no other unit in the faction arsenal can fill. Again, some people can make good use of this unit as well.
Artillery field officer- nice novelty abilities but rubbish compared to the OKW officer
LEFH- junk.
P4 battlegroup- Nope.
LEIG - can, once in a while, perform miracles. Not good nor reliable, but not absolutely awful
OKW Flak- costs as much as a squad, with the added 'bonus' of 10 fuel, and dies to single grenades, sniper shots, concentrated fire... bad.
So IMO that leaves Partisans/Irregulars, Arty officer, LEFH, P4 Battlegroup, OKW Flak.
Definitely don't belong on this list, they're all great units in some situations.
LEIG has accuracy issues, but on maps like Langres with a ton of hills that handily stop it from overshooting, it will do absolutely fantastic.
M10 is best allied infantry crusher. Don't think of it as an AT unit, think of it as a melee anti-infantry unit that can provide some minor AT support.
Ostheer sniper is great sometimes. Mostly not in 1vs1 though.
I'd love to have a commander with both panzer tactician and officer, but because I'm always forced to pick one of them I end up with the more generally useful smoke. But he is definitely strong when in the right place at the right time.
Not gonna vote for any one unit, but per faction:
Ostheer: LEFH (commander required and pathetic damage)
OKW: IR HT (vet1 kubel does the exact same thing for cheaper, no tech requirement, and some actual combat utility) or PIV J (horrible commander required for an average medium tank when you already have super easy access to panthers)
Soviet: AI Partisans (lose to HMG squad members at times, bad commander required)
USF: M21 (suboptimal commander required, basic fire modes absolutely worthless, only saving grace is phosphor)
