USF officer bonuses and paratroopers

However I've never seen this mentioned anywhere and it if indeed gives bonuses how does it work exactly?
is it required to keep the officer close like the terror officer, or is it simply about having him alive somewhere on the map.

That being said I never go captain because it's a massive waste of fuel. Better to just paradrop the AT guns you need.

Mind you it could throw the early game too much in usf favor in 1v1s alittle too much

No, but paratroopers receive some stat bonuses for having them on the field (1.2 accuracy for lieutenant, 0.5 armor for captain). The game only checks that you have the officers in your unit list so not an aura really.
Wow, I didn't know that. I think that's the weirdest stat bonus in the game. It looks like an oversight actually.

If there's an oversight, it's that the UI gives absolutely zero indication that this is happening. So yeah, pretty weird.

Another reason to never choose a different doctrine than auraborne

I don't see how it could be an oversight. It's not like bonuses just pop into the game on their own. Somebody had to put that there.

It seems to me like there was probably meant to be a universal buff from officers, but then they removed it and took out the status from every unit but forgot Paratroopers somehow.

If you don't want the extra cap, you can leave them at few members alive or just put them inside your ambulance (eventhough i don't know if it will work or not).

And the fight was basically a tossup with teh lieutenat winning 2 times and captain once. You would think 0.5 extra armor would make a significant impact

The lieutenant accuracy bonus should be fine, but I can't say if it is applied retroactively to existing squads if you get a lieutenant later, nor am I sure if the bonus goes away with lieutenant dying.
