So my teammate keeps telling me to get a captain instead of lieutenant when I'm going airborne because of bonuses it gives. It apparently increases accuracy for the lieutenant and armor for the captain.
However I've never seen this mentioned anywhere and it if indeed gives bonuses how does it work exactly?
is it required to keep the officer close like the terror officer, or is it simply about having him alive somewhere on the map.

Captain gives 0.5 armor as long as he's alive somewhere on the map.

That being said I never go captain because it's a massive waste of fuel. Better to just paradrop the AT guns you need.

I have heard of this too. In fact one of the members here, I forgot who exactly, revealed the bonuses in another thread. I want to know the details like you, because whatever the bonus is, it doesn't seem to be much. I don't know if I'm not doing it right or if it just sucks.

Too bad it doesnt give the aura to all combat units and not just paras, would help scale into late game more in the inf battles instead of relying on tanks or up guned paras
Mind you it could throw the early game too much in usf favor in 1v1s alittle too much

No, but paratroopers receive some stat bonuses for having them on the field (1.2 accuracy for lieutenant, 0.5 armor for captain). The game only checks that you have the officers in your unit list so not an aura really.

Wow, I didn't know that. I think that's the weirdest stat bonus in the game. It looks like an oversight actually.

I don't see how it could be an oversight. It's not like bonuses just pop into the game on their own. Somebody had to put that there.

If there's an oversight, it's that the UI gives absolutely zero indication that this is happening. So yeah, pretty weird.

It seems to me like there was probably meant to be a universal buff from officers, but then they removed it and took out the status from every unit but forgot Paratroopers somehow.

Think about it as a coh1 upgrade. You pay 80f and mp to unlock .5 armor for your paratroopers.
If you don't want the extra cap, you can leave them at few members alive or just put them inside your ambulance (eventhough i don't know if it will work or not).

It's probaly a leftover from when relic designed the USF to be like the brits.

So chuko and me tested it three times and I'm not convinced if it works. He had a dead lieutenant and i had an alive captain and with smoke and ejecting from vehicles we made sure the paratroopers fought each other at the same time.
And the fight was basically a tossup with teh lieutenat winning 2 times and captain once. You would think 0.5 extra armor would make a significant impact

I can also say that my paratroopers feel exactly the same to me regardless of my officer situation. Since there's no official statement from relic on the matter, it's possible the stats in the files that cruzz is digging through are misleading and don't actually do anything. But hey who knows.

I've mentioned it a few times elsewhere though not in that original thread, but in all likelihood the captain bonus will only apply to models that were alive when the squad first spawned. It is set to permanent: false;, which was the only attribute that was changed to true on a bunch of veterancy bonuses that Relic claimed were only applying to models that were alive when the squad went up in veterancy.

The lieutenant accuracy bonus should be fine, but I can't say if it is applied retroactively to existing squads if you get a lieutenant later, nor am I sure if the bonus goes away with lieutenant dying.
