You guys have an indomitable sense of optimism for a niche title in an unpopular gaming genre. WWII isn't the hot new thing people are looking to invest time into. This long after release, I'm surprised the community is as big as it is.

Given that the game is often available for $10 USD or less.....thats nearing "free" when you compare to the cost of AAA release titles.

Really don't think the price of entry is the problem.

Hans said, "It's not like SEGA is struggling for money right now" with the news of the recent downsizing to the organisation wouldn't that tell you that they ARE struggling for money right now?

Being free to play might help boost coh2 numbers a little bit however their monetisation plan for the game is total shit and not sustainable. Having game play elements SOLELY behind a paywall is the wrong way to go about it. Sure you have a chance to earn them through war spoils but its far too frustrating a system currently to depend on getting the new commanders.

If they are deciding about free to play they really need to reconsider their monetisation plan and how players acquire items in game and not just putting it all behind a paywall.

Improving the performance of the game would help as well, the rendering of the in game UI takes up stupid amounts of resources. Every time you switch units or buildings or bring up the tac map, you get these micro lags which points at the UI being a big culprit in the poor performance.

Based on what I've gathered, Relic stands to become stronger from Sega's financial issues since they're part of the expansion plans for the restructure.

How that translates into implementation remains to be seen, but going free to play would hamper any future plans. There's a certain negative connotation to games that were once paid content going free. I expect the community to grow during 2015, but not by much.

Okay, just a spekulation, but relic has now been working on the war spoils system since it came out, and the answer when u ask is "we are working on it". Maybe they are changing the system in the more F2P direction allready?
Due to those NDA´s we probably even wont hear about it until it has happened!
