And here i thought i was the only person who left my Guards' PTRS lying on the ground, as well as ignoring PTRS on the ground as Axis. Its too much of a hinderance, which is stupid. A bazooka or a panzerschreck has more AI ability than a PTRS. Now how does that make sense?

Sadly that's based on history. Of course we can always argue for historical approach, however that's still how it was done.
Soviets relied more on AT guns, starting with 45-mm obr. 37 Anti-tank gun and later obr. 42, that were in turn backed up by ZiS-2 57-mm gun.

So Relic had choice either keep weaker PTRS, or give Bazooka to Soviets (there were some supplied)

^I've heard to the contrary, but whateva'.

TBH, I'd rather have the ZiS-3 / ZiS-2; yes, the 37-K was a decent ATG, but the Obr 42 was leaps and bounds better (sadly, its garbage in game because reasons).

Honestly, I think I'd be fine if Guards just got a single PTRS--no other changes. Would they really be that much worse off, since the PTRS is inherently crap?

Guards would be a lot better if they weren't constantly dropping their weapons all over the place. As it is currently it's almost like a game at the fair: Punch a Guard, get a prize!

I also wouldn't mind a slight increase to the penetration of the PTRS so that it can tickle medium tanks as the game progresses. The infantry based AT options for the allies are pretty horrible atm. I don't want guards to straight up counter medium tanks as that would be pretty broken, but a small amount of extra (reliable) damage would be nice.

i woudldnt want to see a dps buff for these guys regardless. ptrs needs a good pen boost to make them useful against mediums and support against heavies, idc how historical that is though. for their performance, please let them come with dp28 immediately at 330mp, or lower dp28 to 60munitions, while guards themselves are 300mp since button is effectively useless

lastly a good buff to guards durability might be the best change, they should take on the role of heavy line infantry, that means average dps, but good survivability in cover and at range. a 0.87 received accuracy might be a good start.

My King Tiger just blitzed out of being buttoned by Guards... That's really sad....

Button should immobilize or decrease movement like a heavy damage engine. Turret and fire capabilities could remain untouched or slighty slower, but current speed reduction is a joke, even halftracks and 222 just run away from button.

Agreed with Arclyte.

Alternatively, buff the PTRS to high heaven (then you'd have to give just 1 to Cons in Tank Hunters or something).

Alternatively, give the option to buy 2 PTRS or 2 DPs separately, like Stormtroopers.

Alternatively, make them dispense free beer to the player at Vet2. That's what would get me to use them every once in a while.

I have asked for Guards to spawn with six Mosins and have the choice of upgrades until I am blue in the face. PTRS could easily be buffed this way and button would only be available if you went Dp-28 for A.I. and could be made strong again.

i liked the idea of letting the vehicle shoot while being buttoned but buttoning is so crap now. Like the vehicle looks like it still has more than 50% of its speed.

Yeah, not only smoke is a counter to button. Blitz can also free your tank easily.

Guard Riflemen DP-28 ‘Button’

The intent of these changes is to provide the opposing player an opportunity to react and counter the usage of button. Currently, the ability is very one sided, it provides the Soviet player with a quick and easy to execute vehicle snare without much counterplay in-between. By providing the opposing player with a way to react, the counter-play relative to unit positioning is better defined, thus reducing the receiving player’s frustration when the ability is executed.
Speed reduction from 0.1 to 0.33
Added rotation reduction of 0.33
Acceleration from 0.1 to 0.5
Deceleration from 8 to 2
Main gun set to active
Main gun rate of fire set to fire 1.56x slower

'Nuff said.

Relic is widely acknowledged for their stupid and unnecessary overbuffs and overnerfs.
Although Relic's balance team thought that button ability needed that stupid nerf doesn't mean that it is balanced or necessary at all.

Should I remind you who overbuffed Katyusha a couple of weeks ago??

And then there is quote about blitz attacking rockets to tank feels unrealistic and we're back to that.

Relic isn't known for holding to their explanations as they often have no slightest clue on that to do with stuff.

I repeat you again: That Relic thinks that something is balanced doesn't mean anything. Relic fucks the game each month with every patch they release, so their balance opinion is not the right one by default. It should be always open to critique.

Guards doesn't do much better than conscripts as AI unit. Their AT weapon only damages halftracks, and now their only useful ability, which needed a 75 ammo investment and combined arms to be effective, is nerfed to oblivion.
Denying that there's a balance issue with that unit only makes of you a biased player.
