According to this site, there are traces in some steam files that lead to the conclusion that our most beloved game is being ported to Linux and Mac. That makes me quite happy, as the only reason I wasn't able to convert some of my friends to the Church of CoH2 is that they are using Linux as their only operating system.

Great news! Didn't expected it much since all the steamOS hype went away, but I'm quite excited for a linux support.

I know it's unlikely, but we might see a switch to the MP being free to play entirely, considering that they're unlikely to get that many more sales from Mac or Linux.

they tried free to play once and had a pretty bad experience. I doubt they'll do it again.

Considering the game is horribly "optimised" for windows, the amount of issues that would arise from running on Mac or Linux would be astronomical IMHO.

I'm a mac guy, but run windows for games and some non mac stuff, but Windows still is the gaming platform, maybe Linux will take over in 3-4 years, and with steam supporting that, it's likely but the game needs to be optimised for performance first. Getting regular bug splats even on well built rigs with the settings down low is not a good sign.

When has CoH/Relic done F2P? I'm interested in this as I felt that CoH2 was moving towards a free to play multiplayer platform as well.

Also, I guess Sega would control that option, I don't know how willing they would be to try it or not. I believe they had success with F2P in Spiral Knights previously though.

CoHO was pretty darn fun too. It was very flawed but some of those op hero units were a blast to play with and the meaningfully powerful bulletins allowed for a number of creative strats.
