Some of the members of this site have already got their VOD highlight videos muted due to this change. I thought I'd start a thread for discussing this and expressing the frustration.

The blog post which explains everything: http://blog.twitch.tv/2014/08/3136/

How it works:

The Audible Magic technology will scan for third party music in 30 minute blocks — if Audible Magic does not detect its clients’ music, that portion of the VOD will not be muted. If third party audio is detected anywhere in the 30-minute scanned block, the entire 30 minutes will be muted.

Audio Recognition will only be run against audio in VODs. We are not scanning live broadcasts and there is no automated takedown of live content.

It also affects their own videos, which is ridiculous! - http://www.twitch.tv/twitch/b/548824097

Annoying, but inevitable, unfortunately. I'm more concerned about the old COH1 tournaments from GR. There are a lot of those that are worth exporting to YouTube before they get deleted forever. Does anyone on staff here have access to those channels? Hopefully they are salvageable and haven't been ruined by Audible Magic.

Pretty normal that you can't stream copywrited music. It's like having a pirate radio. But a streaming company blocking ingame music is pretty rediculous.

It's understandable on youtube as you actually can listen music there. But on Twitch the music playing the background is often covered with the livestreamer talking, in-game sounds & audio etc. It's free advertisement as often I find myself adding songs from Streams to my Spotify playlists.

Who's watching Twitch just for the music? Unless someone is abusing the VOD system by publishing music there.

Sib FM is not going down. You may mute my VODs but you cannot silence Sibia's national radio station.

It's pretty crazy and barbaric in its current form but I really do hope we see it toned down because it's extremely prejudicial right now.

Well, in the background or not, it's not legal.
At least in Belgium, so I understand why they do it.

Anyway, I hope it gets fixed soon.

By that definition, you'll probably have to ban 90% of the Internet. I don't think people understand that the laws that dictate these things to be "illegal" are unfair, outdated and destructive to the entire industry.

yea, i knew it would be coming :(
what a pity

over here in germany we are extra-fu**** with the gema blocking a lot of youtubevideos, its so annoying. out of the 1000 most-seen videos on youtube, 600 are blocked in germany, the second worst country is south-sudan with 153 :D
and this will probably happen to twitch aswell. time to buy a vpn....

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnd Twitch has just been Google-fied. If things don't improve in the future people might switch over to hitbox or something else.
