I have the US Mechanized Commander, and I really like the WC51 Dodge. It is fielded very early, and it has decent speed and firepower. However in medium game I don't know whether I should make WC51's or the M20 Utility Car. The M20 has armor upgrades and better abilities (AT mines, Bazooka Squad), however it has a higher cost.

Which light vehicle do you guys prefer for the US?

Thanks!

AA HT. M20. I dislike slow vehicles that leave a cheesy aftertaste.

I prefer the M20 because:

Smoke at vet 0
Mines at vet 0
Bazooka at vet 0
non-doctrinal

Dodge of course.
Dodge + rifle to counter any early sturmpio + kubel.
Dodge + Lieutenant supported with rifles if you decide to go T2
Dodge + Captain can be nice also if you decide to go fast T3

Dodge + Lieutenant gain incredibly fast vet with your lieutenant and so good buff for your rifles. Don't forget to buy them a second BAR.

M20. Mines, can win 1v1 against all OKW infantry early / take out their FlaK HT and will force Ostheer to field a 222.

You might want to rephrase the sentence. It might be a bit misleading. The mines, to my knowledge, are only triggered by vehicles.

Why not both? Open with a dodge, then refund it and get a utility car. Everybody wins (except your opponent, hopefully)

That does make sense as you'll have experienced crew for it.

Sadly the crew gets refunded too, unless you replace them with some rear echelon troops or something, which seems like a bit of a waste.

Of course I'd replace them with RETs.

Why would I want RETs on field anyway while vehicle crew does pretty much the same(caps and repairs) while not pretending it can fight and is still useful for later on when your real armor arrives.
