"On May 7th the Company of Heroes’ online servers at server hosting company Quazal will be shut down. We are very excited that we have been able to keep the game alive by transitioning to Valve’s Steamworks servers where the game will live well into the future.

We have our Steam build ready now for those that want to migrate in advance of the shutdown on May 7th.

Instructions for transferring your game to the Steamworks servers are below:

1. Download and install Steam which is located here - http://store.steampowered.com/
2. Launch Steam and create Steam account (if you do not have one)
3. Sign into Steam account
4. Select “Activate a Product On Steam” from the “Games” menu
5. Enter your Company of Heroes CD-Key in the resulting menu
6. Repeat for the Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor expansion packs
7. If you do not have your original Company of Heroes CD-Key we will be releasing a tool that will allow you to retrieve that from your account later in April.

Once you have completed these steps you’ll see “Company of Heroes (New Steam Version)” appear in your Library. You can download this and begin to play.

You will continue to have access to the previous version of Company of Heroes until the Quazal server closure, and thus have the option of being able to play either the Steam or Quazal version of the game until that time.

If you have your CD-Key and still are having technical issues with the transition please contact us at info@relic.com."

No leaderboards is a shame but those have been a farce for quite a while

No map preferences is a damn shame though =(

"On May 7th the Company of Heroes’ online servers at server hosting company Quazal will be shut down. Details on how to transition your account from Quazal to Steam are here.

Longtime Company of Heroes players will notice some features that are initially missing from the Steam version of the game. We have attempted to preserve as much of the playing experience of Company of Heroes as much as we could, however some features are no longer working as previously shipped. Listed below are features that we are not currently able to offer in Company of Heroes. We understand that the loss of features like your friends’ lists, leaderboards and match arbitration is regrettable and while we’re glad to be able to secure the game’s long term survival on Valve’s Steamworks servers we’re sorry to see those go.

Fortunately, on June 25th Company of Heroes 2 will be launching with many of those features, which will be housed on servers controlled by Relic. Following the launch of CoH 2 we plan to begin reintroducing those features back into the original game, using those same servers. While we can’t yet give a timeline for when these features will be reintroduced to Company of Heroes, our initial priority will be match arbitration, to ensure a trusted environment for our competitive players.

Overall we are enthusiastic about the transition from Quazal servers to Steamworks. The recent performance of the Company of Heroes serves on Quazal has been frustrating for both players and the development team. We are excited that the move will secure the long term future of Company of Heroes. This will help keep the game alive. In an industry where too many companies shut down their online servers after a few years we are extremely proud to have been able to support Company of Heroes for over six years and well into the future.

The main changes are:

• The game now uses your Steam profile and Relic Online has been removed.
• A number of online systems (matchmaking, chat, leaderboards) reworked to use Steam network.
o For example the Whisper command has been disabled in public chat due to system limitation. Whisper still functions in arranged team chat and in-game.
o We disabled a number of leaderboards because they could not be supported due to system limitations
• Automatch map filter no longer works and has been disabled.
• Friends List updated to use Steam friends. Only online Steam friends will be shown.
• Current Company of Heroes friends lists will not be transferred over
• Removed unsupported options from friends list: Add Friend, Remove Friend, Whisper Player. These are now facilitated via the Steam friends list.
• Removed Relic’s post-match arbitration system.
• News Tab - Online Stats not currently not supported due to system limitations.
• Whisper command disabled in public chat due to system limitations. Whisper still functions in arranged team chat and in-game.
• Removed chat commands that are no longer supported: /whisper, /reply, /addfriend, /removefriend, /ignore, /unignore, /ignorelist, /joinfriend

As mentioned we are also looking into preserving the Company of Heroes leaderboards and as many stats as information as we can prior to the shutdown so that we can host them on a website to commemorate the battles that you’ve fought during the game’s life on Quazal.

Over the coming weeks we will be conducting tests on the new servers to help best optimize them. During these tests we may be asking the community to jump online to help us testing our stability on the new backend, and we hope that you’ll join us for these stress tests.

We thank all of you very much for your support of Company of Heroes over the past six years and hopefully well into the future. Everyone at Relic feels incredibly honoured to be able to work with you as a community and on a game as beloved as Company of Heroes."

Working fine at the moment, no lags, instant login, friendlist without bugs. Steam rules!

Anybody knows the current mappool for 1v1 and 2v2?

What, we have to play wrecked train and blowlands forever now?

Also, removal of friends system and smurfing sucks. I guess there's no use complaining now though.

Edit: I see they might add the friendslist back in the future, so here's hoping they do :)

vCoh servers are still up for now, so you can still play both versions till the old server is shut down.

I'm currently downloading the Company of Heroes New Steam Version. I own original discs of both CoH and CoH:ToV. After redeeming ToV's code on Steam, it started downloading both CoH and CoH:ToV. As I want to start playing again as soon as possible, I have a question: Will I be able to play CoH even if I download ToV only first?

you only need to download the "new steam version"... and as for coh/of/tov... it's all the same game with the same exact files... only the new steam version is different.

I'm getting a 'duplicate product code' on my original version for some reason.
