I always wondered if the sandbags can provide extra cover to garrissons
Example:
I have a Volk Squad in a building:

If i provide more cover like this:

Will it actually make the squad safer against small arms fire?

Another Example with Trench HMG Nest:

Simple Trench:

Modified:

Hopefully someone can confirm (strategist)?

Well, cover is directional, so it should block some more shots by logic, thou garrisoned units may be getting garrisoned building hitbox instead of their own, which would negate all additional cover except walls against tank shells.

against small arms? i dont think so. from what i understand, if a hit is rolled for small arms fire, it will always deal damage, regardless of what the actual tracer shows. you can see this when firing up hill sometimes. bullets will go into the ground, yet squads on the top of the hill will still take damage. missed shot tracers are purely visual and have no collision, so you wont be protecting against those either.

and i dont think this will register as 2 types of cover for garrisoned units either.

these sandbags may help take a hit or 2 from ballistic or explosive weapons though, since they mainly rely on collision to determine hits.

Besides, the reinforced house/bunker with the sandbags looks pretty badass.

If you have time to build all that you probably have time to build the Great Wall of China outside the enemies base too

Believe it or not in team games you sometimes have a area for a long time, so you can just set defensive positions like these which will help. specially trenches

I am imagining it will work against AOE. When there is light or heavy cover between your target and your firing tank or whatever, even if the target is 5 yards behind the bushes, sandbags or other cover some of the shots will hit the cover and tear it up.

this actually leads me in to a question i have.

If you use the sherman bulldozer to dozer up some cover in front of the sherman does it act as a blockade that can absorb tank shots?

OKW volksgrenadier sandbags make everything look more badass. I would do it anyways even if it doesnt do anything; itll intimidate the enemy.

Yes. But you might find that this works both ways.

Small arms, this will have no effect. But green has a chance to stop AOE weapons like tank shells.

I just noticed that sand bags have snow on them even when it's not snowing.

You sure they're snow? What makes you think the volksgrenadier didn't used bags of flour from lack of sandbags. :P

Vehicle cover used to give the vehicle a -25% received accuracy bonus, which would work against small arms too. You could put sandbags next to the flak 88 and make it harder to hit, or park the jeep in a crater and make it survive alot longer against infantry.

They put snow on them for camouflage reasons.
