It's perfectly usable, even in 1v1, but only if you're able to keep it alive during the late game.

Against maxims you say? Try using stock HT as a unit transporter, if you put assgrens or pgrens inside you just got a new maxim for the wehrmacht :) And sometimes you just need to make a maxim retreat from a good spot, such a maxim is usually alone one, use that mg on the HT, its enough if you're shooting from behind, you don't even need any infantry.

It is still a very viable upgrade, but more so in 2v2 than in 1v1. Most people go t2 and then t3, and on urban maps(kholodny, semoisky) it's really useful to get the flammenwerfer.

1. It's tier 2,5 not 3 and at the same time russian HT is truly a tier 3 vehicle and it's used really often now, even when german tanks are all over the map, 251 still comes earlier and costs the same to upgrade but is rarely used.

Objection! While it's true that the Soviet Half-Track comes out at T3 and it is used, it also has 3 times as much armour (28/20 vs 9/4) as the 250. As for upgrades, the Quad mount does almost twice as much damage (8.57 vs 13.38) at the FHT's max range (25m), but can fire out to 45m. The Quad does can also damage light vehicles IE the 250 Half-Track. The two are not in the same league and were never intended to be.

You're somewhat right, the best thing about M5 is the range of the quad, really fearsome one, but that's why it's in full t3.
As for other things the armour doesnt change much because russians still have nothing non-doctrinal than zis and nades to kill 251 in t1-t2 and those have much better penetration than even 28 armour.
Germans on the other hand can kill M5 with 222 for example and it's quite easy to be done in fact, there are also pgs with shrecks, superior at guns and the thing that going M5 first instead of T-34 is really risky, and if you produce it after a tank there is no window for it.
And lastly the damage, hmm you know flammenwerfer has not only longer bursts and superior accurancy but also AoE, that multiplies damage somewhat I believe, if the weapon is weaker it should be cheaper, not show up earlier, but in that case the cost should be the same as it is.

I can agree with this. Loading two infantry units in and flanking and dropping them off behind enemy lines can be a game changer. The Halftrack also has the woefully underused doctrinal Reiegel anti-tank mines and the always good Panzer Tactician.

I still find the flamer upgrade extremely useful in 3v3s and to a lesser extent 2v2s. The mobile field presence and infantry deterrent is still extremely strong. That being said it is almost always to much of a liability to get in 1v1.

It fits nicely into my A-Gren, T2 + Call In build, where the need to tech T3 for it is just another way to get Tigers faster.

The Halftrack is still a very useful unit on its own in T2 and the flammenwurfer can be useful T3 especially to flank AT gun lines

remember when it was the only unit used in practically every game. :P

its still useful (the unit) but it doesn't come out when there is nothing to stop it anymore. its situational but i think there isn't enough situations to use it in. not to mention with the munitions you have to spend for it when the Germans are already munitions starved so spending an extra for 120 muni when you have access to shreks, lmgs, g43s, doctrines abilities, etc... that will all do more for you at that stage in the game not to mention you can get an oostwind or stug which are more durable and you don't have to spend your munis on a half track (with paper thin armor) which is the other problem.

at the time i think it was a nesscary change. it was OP but i think giving the flamenwerfer some love would be a good idea. as its never used now. though this could also be the playerbase not using it because it was nerfed rather than not useful. ;) though moving it back to teir 2 means that you might have to nerf it really hard then would anyone use it?
