AT guns snipe infantry too often

Well, the title pretty much says it. AT guns are supposed to be for destroying vehicles. Infantry are supposed to be a hard counter to them. There have been plenty of times during my games where an AT gun has sniped one of my infantry from maximum range, and I have even lost snipers this way.

AT guns should pretty much never snipe infantry, except maybe 0.05% of the time to add the occasional flukey shot that helps make the game fun. It is very frustrating when your sniping the crew of an AT gun and you have to worry about losing your sniper to a unit that has no business killing it.

Yes, but since this is a balance forum, I'm suggesting that this particular shit could happen less.

I'd argue against it.

Everything is supposed to be a threat. And historically, those AT guns, as well as tanks, were often called on to fire on infantry positions more than they ever fired at tanks. They were all issued HE rounds for a reason.

AT guns don't snipe infantry, they just hit infantry at a very low chance. It's low enough that it will happen only a few times per game unless you're in a situation where that AT gun gets a chance to just sit there firing away at infantry for most of the game.

I do think that AT guns shouldn't automatically target infantry though, since it gives away their position so tanks can flank them, or a player can drop a strike on them. The other benefit is that you can use a distraction in micro to help keep your infantry safe from AT gun fire.

Infantry is already the hard counter to AT-guns. As is artillery. Just because a unit is a hard counter to something, does not mean that it will always win with 0 damage taken regardless of how the unit is used.

+1 Turtle. There shouldn't be hard to implement a Toggle button for "Target Vehicles only" in AT guns.

I hate it when a single troop retreating reveals the position of my PAK just because it's on sight.

Btw, Pak cammo should be available at least in vet 2.

That would be a huge kick in the face of soviet players, who can only get it through some commanders.

I once played against a ZIS-3 that got Vet 2 off of only infantry kills....no armor penetrations or anything just infantry gibs..no barrage either.

I've found that AT guns very rarely hit infantry. Basically never. I'm fine with the occasional hit, even so I rarely see it.

Don't feel it's a balance issue IMO, certainly not a pressing one.

i think the reason this happens isn't the guns but the squad ai... (atleast thats what i noticed.) also the targeting system needs a complete rework. :( if these to things were fixed it would make alot of the problems would be dramatically lessened.

AT guns snipe infantry quite often. They have 50% more accuracy than AT tank guns (7.5% instead of 5%). They also have a bit of an AOE that hits on lucky scattered shots.

That. If your opponent decides to manually target your infantry squad and luckily it hits. Good for him. On the other hand i would love having my AT guns "cloaked" and not shooting at some random retreating unit.

I never noticed. SU 85 does a good job of sniping infantry though, especially my vet 3 sniper that survived numerous close calls, only to be sniped 1 sec after he shoots a unit in a squad :****(.

7 out of 100 shots on point blank range will hit infantry.

Don't you have real problems to whine about?

Where are you getting that statistic from? I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just interested in seeing a decent source for statistics.

Also guys, this AT gun sniping happens more often than many of you are saying, and it happens at longer ranges too. A sniper should not get hit by an AT gun at long range 99.9% of the time. I had a game where I was charging PGs at an AT gun to clear it, and the AT gun sniped one of my squad members. This buggered up the whole squad while the remaining three members had to reset their position before the can move again. The AT gun used this time to move away. Bullshit.

Rosbone: @Nickbn No, I am just saying people should not be using any Relic owned forum since they have proven they ban anyone who says true things about Coh3.
