AT guns snipe infantry too often
Posts: 39
AT guns should pretty much never snipe infantry, except maybe 0.05% of the time to add the occasional flukey shot that helps make the game fun. It is very frustrating when your sniping the crew of an AT gun and you have to worry about losing your sniper to a unit that has no business killing it.

Shit happens and we all hate it.
Yes, but since this is a balance forum, I'm suggesting that this particular shit could happen less.

Everything is supposed to be a threat. And historically, those AT guns, as well as tanks, were often called on to fire on infantry positions more than they ever fired at tanks. They were all issued HE rounds for a reason.
AT guns don't snipe infantry, they just hit infantry at a very low chance. It's low enough that it will happen only a few times per game unless you're in a situation where that AT gun gets a chance to just sit there firing away at infantry for most of the game.
I do think that AT guns shouldn't automatically target infantry though, since it gives away their position so tanks can flank them, or a player can drop a strike on them. The other benefit is that you can use a distraction in micro to help keep your infantry safe from AT gun fire.

I hate it when a single troop retreating reveals the position of my PAK just because it's on sight.
Btw, Pak cammo should be available at least in vet 2.

That would be a huge kick in the face of soviet players, who can only get it through some commanders.

Don't feel it's a balance issue IMO, certainly not a pressing one.

That. If your opponent decides to manually target your infantry squad and luckily it hits. Good for him. On the other hand i would love having my AT guns "cloaked" and not shooting at some random retreating unit.

Don't you have real problems to whine about?

7 out of 100 shots on point blank range will hit infantry.

Where are you getting that statistic from? I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just interested in seeing a decent source for statistics.
Also guys, this AT gun sniping happens more often than many of you are saying, and it happens at longer ranges too. A sniper should not get hit by an AT gun at long range 99.9% of the time. I had a game where I was charging PGs at an AT gun to clear it, and the AT gun sniped one of my squad members. This buggered up the whole squad while the remaining three members had to reset their position before the can move again. The AT gun used this time to move away. Bullshit.
