Future Factions: Germany, Germany and more Germany

I know it's probably a bit early to be talking about new factions but I have a bit of a question for you guys. Whenever a thread pops up there are several ideas that tend to get repeated.

1. Two new eastern front factions- The thing with this is that most of the soviets equipment is already represented in game although the Germans probably have enough for another faction.

2. Two new smaller nations - The problem I seem to find with this is that smaller nations like Finland and Poland tend to use a lot of equipment from their larger allies and don't have enough to fully flesh out the kind of content we have seen in the current factions.

3. African Campaign - While I agree it could be interesting, these factions would have too early of an army to compete with the current ones. If that was the case why even make it an expansion to this game instead of a new one. Couldn't it just be represented by TOW if the Americans or British were added at any point?

4. Battle of the Bulge - This would make a great expansion, especially since they could still make use of the Cold Tech, but this would also mean that would get second german faction.

5. Pacific Campaign- This is my personal favorite since it adds two completely new factions, but obviously Japan didn't use the types of heavy tanks you would see in the eastern front, even though japan did fight the Soviets late in the war.

So my question is two years down the line, do you really want to just see something like Soviets, USA, and the British vs Germany, Germany, and more Germany, because that seems kind of boring to me. I much rather see nations like Japan and Italy get historically unused units like the Carro P26/40 or the Chi-nu and Chi-to to fully flesh out newer more unique factions rather then have three different flavors of Germany. How do you feel about this?

Edit: Note that this is the same method used by both RUSE and Men of War to build their Japanese and Italian faction.

Surley it would be easier to convert cold tech and blizzards into hot tech and sandstorms. Desert warfare is something id really like to see, rommels panzers vs the desert rats!

I'm not saying the african campaign wouldn't happen. All you need is the americans or british added and there would be TOW and multiplayer maps added at some point. It's just that you can't center the new factions around that idea without completely seperating them from the current factions. At which point are you even making an expansion or a new game entirely. It's not as if COH2 is confined by a certain time or battle like COH1 was.

easier was a typo oops. I think it would be a better idea to add two new factions who couldnt fight with/against the current two, would make balance much easier but then i suppose one mini game might be too popular compared to the other mini game. i dunno probably talking out of my proverbial

It would be cool if they would open up the TOW ai battles so we could get multiplayer vs matches that are confined to a certain timeline. That could give the same sort of Africa early tank sort of feel without spliting up the automatch games.

But no one is really answering my question. What do you feel about factions using equipment that didn't really see any combat to balance them like in Ruse and MoW? I mean we already have units like the ostawind which were barely used aready?

I was really hoping to get an actually conversation about the implementation of certain factions rather then another wishlist thread with everyone shouting out what they think would be cool. Let's be honest, australia isn't really going to show up anytime soon.

Yeah its a game i wouldnt care about complete accuracy concerning which things were actually used as long as the units themselves are well balanced and dont do more of the same e.g flakpanzer would pretty much be an ostwind

I don't not think that the Ostfront scenario is compatible with any other wartheatre of the era, if put in the same game. No matter how I twist and turn it I just can't see it work.

There's still a lot of stuff from the easternfront theatre that could be implemented.

Omega_Warrior I agree with you, I too would very much like to see Japan as a new faction, the opposite of her in the U.S. (Marine Corps) / subfractions USSR (Baikal Military District)

How could anyone be against a second German faction? There´s just so much stuff left out.

King Tiger, Jagdpanther, Jagdpanzer IV L48 and L70, Hetzer, Nashorn, Hummel, Wespe, Marder I-III, StuG IV, Puma, Panzer III, Jagdtiger, Nebelwerfer, Fallschirmjäger, Wirbelwind, Möbelwagen, Pak 38, Flak 36...

Some of this stuff HAS to be added if the devs don´t want to miss some great opportunity for epic fights.

Problem I see with minor factions: There´s simply not much to be added. It´s leased equipment from the big allied nations or no vehicles at all (Finland had StuGs and captured T-34s for example as armor, Japan on the other hand didn´t have any tank to fight anything bigger than Stuarts).

Because it's boring. I know lots people who play ww2 games are pretty big germanophiles and there is nothing wrong with that, but I don't see why we can't just expand on the one we have already rather then split it into two factions and probably eventually 3.

The axis consisted of more then just germany and I'd rather see a vastly different faction for the axis side. Perhaps something that doesn't rely on heavy tanks as the germans do. A japenese faction could rely on more defensive, ambushy, and near suicidal tactics that would be a good change from the germans more conservative, armor based strategies.

While it's true the Japanese didn't fight with very good tanks, they did build tanks that could rival T34s, shermans, and even the german Tiger, but these where kept on the mainland for the expected invasion that never came. Which is the big question this thread is asking, which is would it really bug you that much if these vehicles were used to flesh out an interesting and unique faction like japan or Italy like other games have done?

I doubt you could stuff all that equipment into one faction without hurting the balance too much. Atm people are complaining that the Germans are way to flexible with their build. It has become a bit less of a problem with the resource increase so that Russians can build their T1 building right away, but as a matter of fact Soviet players still need to decide between T3 and T4.

Now imagine the big uproar if the already existing German faction got a Jagdpanzer IV added in a doctrine and a Panzer III, a Hetzer and Nebelwerfer in T3 and so on.

Of course the axis consisted of more than Germany. But this game is set around summer 1944 - May 1945. What axis powers were left? Germany and Japan. Japan relied on Naval forces and aircraft, which is hard to include into the game.

Other axis powers switched sides or were out of the war for good by that time. Romania, Finland were out by August and September 1944. Italy was in a civil war. Hungary could be included. But it would look a bit strange to have such a small nation being in half of the multiplayer games.

Yes, because stuff that didn´t see any combat shouldn´t be included imo. Because that will lead to strange, wacky combat and eventually could result in a Maus tank for Germans.

As part of the Kwantung Army and its subordinate troops there were 37 infantry divisions and 7 cavalry divisions , 22 infantry divisions , two armored and two cavalry brigades (of 1 million 320 thousand people), 1,155 tanks , 6,260 guns, 1,900 aircraft and 25 warships. The Kwantung Army had also bacteriological weapons , prepared for use against Soviet troops (see " Order 731 "). According to the Soviet scale against the Soviet Union fought two fronts. Large Number of soldiers and tanks were in Japan to defend themselves against the American invasion. Japan had plenty of artillery and a lot of experimental and small series of tanks and self-propelled guns .
Of all of Axis, Japan best suited for the individual fractions.
Italians, Hungarians , Romanians were part of the German forces and German troops obeyed
