Haven't played in 3 years. Best way to relearn the game?

Hello again fellow COH2 players.

Even before I stopped playing I remember there being pretty radical community balance patches to the game. I'm guessing by now it's unrecognizable. I'm thinking of resubbing to ImperialDane and watching a bunch of replays to get a feel for the new meta. Anything else I can do?

I'd say stick to some streams for a couple of games to get ideas for build orders. Just start playing after that though, not that much more to do.
There has been development on the community site, you can e.h. check coh2stats.com to see which commanders are popular at the moment.

Thanks, that page is really useful. Looks like the doctrines have changed quite a bit.

I was in a similar position after a 5 year gap. Even for 3 years, there's too much to discuss or even read from reference pages. Shoot a lot, lose some games and learn from them. Approach everything from a new perspective, forget everything that you used to know about the game. Oh and make sure to have fun.

My advice would be to ask some friends that still play and look for recent casts. I cant remember the last update but generally speaking anything within six months is good (and I guess it will continue indefinitely as no more coh2 balance updates. sad).

1s are probably the easiest to find but you can still find vods (or replays here) of 2s, 3s, and 4s.

But also, depending on how much effort you want to put into it, you can go through the patch notes. You don't really need to see the specific data because usually there are short explanations/intentions of what the changes are for.

Watch streamers and try to learn from them. Start with allies then switch to axis. Have fun.

Thank you all. Having watched some games it seems the axis meta at least hasn't changed that radically over the years.

A bit late to the party, but if you're looking for some high-quality and educational CoH2 casts, especially for 1v1, make sure to check out Tightrope's channel. Very good stuff that helped me personally to improve a lot over the years.
