Is the Black Prince supposed to be some kind of easter egg?

Someone who has a uncle that works at lelic please tell me so. Would be a shame if CoH3 would feature tanks that weren't even used in WW2

Well if we see BP, it’s very likely there’ll be other late war tanks showing up....like König.

König was used and about 250 were built. Black Prince was (afaik) never used and about 6 were built. It is like having a Maus tank or an IS 3 for the Soviets.

If they are so proud in announcing a new theatre of war, they should only include units from that theatre. Black Prince and Königstiger don't belong there.

The Black Price takes this a bit further as it wasn't even used in combat in WW2 and only prototypes were built. And it is an even bigger issue since this gives the Brits the equivalent of an end of tech tank like the Tiger that simply wasn't around for them.

So the "flavour" of the meditarranean campaign they wanted to create and that they were so proud of in the trailer is lost.

44 ostwinds were ever made, right at the end of the war, 6 were ready by May of 1945.
Relic made it look like it was main AA vehicle of axis since both armies have it, one stock.

Just leaving it out there.

I assume you got this from the unsourced Wikipedia article? Tanks-encyclopedia states that one prototype Ostwind was used in France and that Ostwind(s) were used in the Ardennes and at Lake Balaton.

And making a questionable decision in CoH2 should also not justify making an even more questionable one in CoH3

All the unit swaps between factions we've got recently did't gave you memo?

CoH is WW2 themed game, not historically accurate one.

If it is WW2 themed it should feature WW2 units exclusively. The Black Prince isn't one of them.

There is a distinct difference between a vehicle being produced and used in low numbers (Especially since you generally don't build 44 Ostwinds in a single game) and one that wasn't produced/used during the conflict at all.

I seriously don't understand why the Puma/Ostwind is considered comparable to the Black Prince, or any post-war vehicles.

Can we just make Panthers break down randomly due to shitty gearbox, drivetrain and suspension, and while we're at it just make german steel crack from a 2 pounder because of poor steel quality. Ohh also make sure that the germans can only use their tanks for a limited time, lets say 5 mins, due to fuel shortage. Fun fun fun.

On a serious note, deal with it. If it ruins your immersion, play something else and stop crying before the game is even launched.

So might as well add E-100 and Soldiers running around with Holographic sights and robot arms?

While it is true that CoH was never 100% historical accurate (especailly in mulitplayer ... due to the very nature of mulitplayer) they at least tried to keep it plausible. Sure, Tiger II, Puma, Luchs and Sturmtiger were never used in the same battle but they were used on the same front around the same time. Meanwhile Black Prince was never used at all.

It would be especially strange if it was used in Singleplayer. In CoH2 they gave Axis Panzergrens PTRS instead of Schrecks in the Singeplayer campaign because that is what the Axis used in 41,42 and 43 but now there is the possibility of getting a Tank that, and I can not repeat this enough, was never used

Also I don't see how UKF getting M10 (which they did use) and so on (that is what I think you refer to by "unit swaps") means that accuracy is now entirely unimportant

Comparing this to something like a tank that was never used in WW2 being featured in a WW2 game ...

(also the shittyness of the Panthers gearbox has really been overexaggerated during the last few years. A skilled driver could get thousands of miles out of it ... and armor cracking from 2 pounder ... exaggerate some more?)

I think the "armour cracking" thing was either a one-off thing, due to a flawed armour plate, or more likely: An exaggeration/misinterpretation from a test, in which an armour plate that was weakened in some way was then shot with a 2 pounder. I doubt it was something that happened terribly often.

Italy was the first time the Western Allies started to face Panthers and had huge problems with it. They are simply taking that out from the theatre by adding in the Black Prince (post war prototype). For me that looks like lazy balancing (mirroring stuff).

Considering that they spoke a lot about what a special theatre Italy is and considering that they are inculding a lot of early war stuff (early stuart model, crusader AA, bison) a churchill with a 17p feels absolutely out of place.

The game is supposed to be different from the previous COHs which all ended up in an arms race for the super late war tanks. Thought this game was going to be different (PIII vs Grants etc). Quite disappointed taht it is just the usual.

Well is CoH a historical accurate game franchise? No, it has never been. It's a WW2-themed strategy game, and the Black Prince falls under the WW2-theme.

Thanks for agreeing on that the Panther had turbo bad mechanical problems. Lets make it historically accurate then and make them break down randomly. Sounds like a fun and enjoyable gameplay mechanic.

Game has yet to be released and you guys are complaining.

Holographic sights

Google yourself "Mark III free gun reflector sight".

Were you asleep for last 3 years of CoH2 patch cycle?

Except it doesn't.

That would open up the way for the Maus though... with the only exception that there are rumors one Maus actually defended its factory.

But the Black Prince isnt WW2-themed, as it didn't fight in WW2.

This is a really stupid reductio ad absurdum you're making.

Its better to criticize at early alpha, when things are more easily changeable. Than a month before release, where almost everything is final.

Even then. The only blatant Non-WW2 that comes to mind that was added to COH as a whole was the Bergetiger. Despite being "arcadey", COH has usually been reasonable to what was added. Pretty much every unit in COH1 and COH2 has been used in WW2 atleast at one major point. With the only exception once again, is the Bergetiger.

Sure, there maybe other smaller things, but that's what comes into mind instantly for me personally.
