Might be hard to balance "More effective retreats" as a factional trait though, I have to be honest. :^)

I read a book not long ago called Panzer Ace by Hans von Luck who was first in Rommel's 7th Panzer Division during the invasion of France in 1940 and later with him again in Africa and he actually wrote that the Italians fought pretty well.
And it's something I've also read from other sources as well about Rommel even commending the Italian divisions in Africa, as well as the cavalry ones on the Eastern Front.

Lions led by donkeys, as it were. That, and Italian Materiel was pretty rubbish.
I expect the Italian Army might have been fairly threatening if it had a better doctrine, and access to better equipment.
