Extremely Buggy Replays
Posts: 615
Idk if there is a correlation but I think maybe 2x speeding the replay increases the chance. But I have had bugsplats at 1x speed.
This is ridiculous especially because this means I cannot watch replays.
I have reported the bugsplats to Relic. I don't remember this ever happening pre-64 bit.
Note: I don't get bugsplats in-game, just during replays. I don't get bugsplats during load. I only get bugsplats during replay or in-lobby, or after I watched a replay and went back to lobby.

We are aware of this bug, but more information would be useful
One of our programmers asked the following:
"It would be good to ask if these crashes are reproducible: do they always crash at the same point? Are they fooling around clicking on the UI on the crash happens? Any more information we can have will help us. If it is reproducible ask if they can post their replay.
Also if you can ask what kind of GPU, vram and ram size they have."
Feel free to Pm me your responses so I don't miss this thread.

beforeu upgrade I had almost zero bug splats, now every replay I watch...I don't even dare to play automatch...
Not sure if they always crash at the same point or if I was clicking on the UI at that time...
I have gtx 1060 6gb and 16gb ddr3 3200Mhz if that helps...

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5800X
GPU: RTX 3080 10GB
RAM: DDR4-3200 64GB
I just watch the replays, 1X or 8X speed, follow the camera or not, doesn't matter they just crashed randomly, tried 4 times, crashed 4 times before 50% of the game length, I gave up.

I switched the folder for replays to "read only", because my games crahes also in lobby.
additionally I turn off realtime virus scanner. This helped so far.

This is the replay I am using to reproduce the crash (not my own replay btw)
The most reliably way to crash a replay is simply to click on one team's "Stuff" and then the other teams stuff, the the first teams stuff, and so on.
and by stuff I mean units or their UI part.
2) Another day I could crash a replay consistently by going into the menu --> options --> audio and it would crash guarantied.
3) Yesterday while spectating a match it crash 2 times around the same point. 3. time it crashes much later in the replay.
4) Just watching a replay without click on anything can crash coh2.
5) While spectating a match I left my computer untouched until the match was over. Then I looked around the map, but it didn't take long before the game crashed.
Here are some PC specs
Intel Core i7-4770K
Kingston DDR3 HyperX Beast 16GB 1600MHz 2x8GB
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X - 8GB GDDR5 RAM

Yea so, I dont have any crashes when I try to watch a replay as long as the replay from the same coh2 version. I do have a lot of issues trying to spectate a game. I crash every single time, most of the time within a minute. Also while casting a ML4 game, Pompey606 and me created a observer party to cast vonivan against Luvnest and at the 30 min mark of the game. I saw a stug dying and on pompeys screen it was still alive. Link to the stream

Here's a snip:
RelicCoH2.exe from Relic Entertainment Inc. has caused an access violation exception (0xC0000005) when trying to read from memory location 0x0000003c on thread 74

I can also add that I checked the dump file. (I believe relic's own tool for reading dmp files gives a better analysis)
Here's a snip:
Good old C++ nullptr exception. Basically you are trying to access memory that doesn't exist anymore.
For example if you try to call Rifleman.Shoot() but that particular rifleman died and was deallocated from memory, it throws a access violation error.
Kudos to you finding the dump file, I tried finding it in crashes folder but couldn't find anything helpful

Today 3 times in a row. Is it kind of a hack or what?

I have build a new PC (Took the GPU from the old PC, damn shortage/scalpers/bots)
and I couldn't get coh2 to crash. I watched 10 different matches online and no matter what I did, coh2 wouldn't crash.
Here's my new specs
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X CPU
Kingston HyperX FURY DDR4-3600 C18 DC - 2x16
MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X - 8GB GDDR5 RAM
Edit
My old system would still crash while spectating after the 2. 64bit hotfix.
Edit #2
Never mind, I just watched a match online and it crashed.

While spectating the following match I kept crashing, but 1 time it let me watch the whole thing, so I could save the replay
While watching the replay it would crash around the same time.

I would always remove fog of war, enlarge the UI and set the speed to x8.
Then I would begin to click on the player cards like a mad man.
Around 1:30 I would press the osteer player card only, until it either crashed or it cleared the hump, to which I would go back to clicking both player cards.
The last 2 entries I would not click a bunch of times on the player cards, I just clicked once on the osteer player card.

I believe I have found the cause of the crashes while watching replays and a walkaround for the issue.
Its the sound system in coh2 that causes the crashes.
After disabling all sound outputs in windows, I could no longer get the replay to crash.
Here are my attempts:
1:40 Our assault announcement (Just making sure I can still crash the replay like usual)
1:38 Our ****Something**** announcement from osteer (Just making sure I can still crash the replay like usual)
1:35 still crashes after turning volume down in game (First attempt at walkaround fix)
--6:34 no crash Disablet all sound output in windows. Restart coh2
Sound no longer initialized by coh2
10:12:34.45 SOUND -- Failed to open Miles driver, error: 'waveOutOpen() failed.'! Frequency: 44100 | Channels: 2.
10:12:34.45 SOUND -- Failed to initialize Miles driver!
10:12:34.45 SOUND -- Shutting down ...

--3:05 no crash Disablet all sound output in windows. Restart coh2
--5:07 no crash Disablet all sound output in windows. Restart coh2
--5:01 no crash Disablet all sound output in windows. Restart coh2
I hope this helps

Another cause is the resolution. Watching the replay at 2560 x 1440 will crash the game. Lowering the resolution is a walkaround.
Here logs from watching the replay and what time they crash and resolution.
1:40 Crash 2560 x 1440 @120FPS
--No crash 1920×1080 @120FPS restart coh2

DUDE... I have 2560x1440 monitor too!!! Is this the root cause? Anyone else here can confirm replay crashes at 1440p, anybody at 1080p.
Good QA work dude

Yes this is happening to me too, typically my replays crash in the first 5 seconds. Another part of the game made almost unusable by the update.
What's your main game monitor resolution

I have also noticed when I adjust sound it increases chance of crash
