They're engineers that only cost 200MP, what did you expect? Sturmpioneers? If you really want to see a weak starting engineer unit, take a look at USF.

Right? Not only is their DPS enough to trade well or even win vs main line troops like conscripts and rifleman when ambushing them, they are also amazing at spotting enemies for your MG42, often allowing Ost to win the first engagement. Not shabby at all for a 200mp builder unit.

Then royal engineer definitely should get the same treatment since they come from a higher tier and cost slightly more but have identical dps profile with pio.

But have a snare and can get a 5th model and can pick up lmg or AT weapons...

I'd say their "low" dps is more than made up for by the instant death they can potentially deliver to a light tank...

To be fair the brits have the bofors which takes out infantry , light vehicles, medium vehicles, light tanks, medium tanks and aircraft as well acing as an artillery piece for only 280 manpower which is only 80 manpower more than a pioneer.

Update your game.
Bofors is suppression platform that does light damage to infantry and is threat to lights exclusively left in its range for longer time.
