How's the saying go? "If you're good at something, never do it for free."

never bite the hands that feed you smh
Trying to help you out because I love the people on this website and I know most staffers are working their ass off on a daily basis to make this community better.

BannedThe excitement for ESL has been low because they are catering to the same small group of players each week. Increased prizes will do very little to help.

I don't know the story of Ipkai here, but I sense the butthurtness of Ipkai is strong on this one
That's it. That's exactly what I'm saying every day and made a topic about which apparently many people disagreed with.
Make returning tournaments for max 10 ppl (Luvnest, Jesulin, Barton, Hans, ...) and call it Esports? Leave 99,99% of the community hanging? [...]
Makes no sense, makes no sense at all.

Honestly, I think IpKai is deserving of more respect than a halfassed unpleasant comment like that.
For this, I have a comment and a question.
The comment first; how do you make a tournament for lower brackets that isn't ripe for abuse?
The answer to that comment might be my question (confused yet?): Didn't they want to make it so players could either compete in the monthlies for the big prize (upper brackets) or weeklies for small prizes (lower brackets), but never both?
To me that seemed like a smart way to do it, though I don't know how they are going to avoid good players making more accounts to compete in both tournaments, nor how they intent to catch them.

"Euh but Night everyone can participate so your argument is invalid' - false. Why join a tournament you know you will lose? If heavy weights like Barton, Jesulin and all are all in the tournament, you know you will be knocked out in the 1st round even if you are in the the top 20 of the game.
Makes no sense, makes no sense at all.

Sorry but I have to disagree. I think tournaments should be for best players as ESL is. I don't see point watching someone unknown to me with my skill level. On the other hand I watched all ESL finals (EU/NA) either live or recorded.
When you check number of viewers on coh2 streams it's quite obvious that number is a function of skill level and personality of streamer. So instead of 1k+ viewers you would get 100-200 participants. I don't see how it would make sense for growing community as whole.
Plus when you have player like Luvnest or Jesulin you can for example put community spotlight with them and promote game that way. How would you do that with someone unknown who won medium level tournament due to pure luck (if it's not luck then he shouldn't be in that tournament at all)?
And as why to play ESL as it is? My answer is that you should play to have a chance of going against the best and learning from them.
Just my 2 cents.

Lol dude, that just does not make any sense at all.
So basically you're saying that there shouldn't be leagues for football teams that can't compete with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona? Same principle.
