If they were so desperate that they were depending on preorders to put food on the tables, they would've gone under long ago. They just want to get paid as soon as they can like everyone else does, though not necessarily requiring it.

You dont realy think the developers and other staff involved in this project are not getting paid until the final product hits the market. This project needs constantly money to keep going. The preorders is a free loan without interest to reduce the cost of the production. Be sure that 50€ 6 month ago are more to the company then 50€ much later. After all they are no charity and want to maximize their profits.

Sorry if my grammar or anything is aweful because english is not my main language :)

tbh i dont think it was purelly relics decision to give beta to preorder custumers first, you need to remember that sega spent loads of money on relic, no wonder they want some money asap

There is only one issue with the "everyone else" part. The Alpha and Eurogamer key holders represent a very small portion of people who will be testing the game. Eurogamer keys I'm guessing there were only a few hundred given out, and mostly to the press who were attending the event. The amount of people in the alpha test was also very small according to relic.

Having a beta that anyone can get into by pre-ordering is not an exclusive thing at all. It allows far more people to get in right away because all they have to do it pay for the game they were probably going to buy anyway. Limiting the initial testing to a small group of people who attended exclusive events is what would limit the testing pool.

Again, nobody is saying preorders shouldn't get in beta. But I don't know why you or anyone else is still defending them deciding to exclude people that were told they would be in the initial stage.

i am actually pretty sure that this decision is made by the publisher as they are the main investors.

If you want to be in the initial stage just preorder the game if you are going to by it anyway. I preordered the game in Dez 2012 and was pretty unhappy about the fact that it was not preorders only who could play the alpha because i didnt get in and many others who didnt preorder could play it back then

The reason is that even if people have a eurogamer or alpha key they will still need to pre-order to get into the first wave. If they are patient enough then they will still get in a few weeks later. Do I think they should let everyone in right away? Sure why not, but relic needs to make money and I don't blame them. Having a pre-order only beta is a proven way to boost sales.

This isn't the first time relic has done this either. The first wave of the DoW2 beta was only open to people who owned the soulstorm expansion for DoW1. Frankly I think people are just making big deal over nothing.

the only arguments i heard that didn't sound like "crybaby wants beta NAAAOOOO" were twisters, and even those can be put aside with "you'll get into beta eventually".

I already said I'm going to pre-order before April 2nd, I don't mind doing that. What bothers me is that they didn't even figure out what they're giving for the CE and yet they're basically asking us to pre-order right now, even taking their word back about alpha testers getting regular access to the beta. It's about respect for the community.

PS: Some folks have it twisted here: it's not about who get's in and who doesn't, it's about the reason not to let everyone in. Not keeping the promises to get extra cash earlier; how right and fair is that?

And I know that it's probably Sega who made the move. The fact that they didn't promise anything themselves doesn't make it any less silly.

okay, then how stupid was the decision to promise guys with a convention key to get access to the beta BEFORE paying customers?! sorry, but no amount of facepalming will suffice for that one.

If you re-read what I said you'll notice that I'm only talking about regular access to the beta. I thought it would be clear that I'm not claiming that giving priority to people with convention keys is fair.
One facepalm should suffice for that one ;)

Eh what is all this fuss. People who paid for the pre-order are receiving a thank you for paying in advance.

Its a good marketing tool that works and at the end of the day is good for the company and publisher. If you want to get in that badly, pay up or wait.

If this were a 3 month long beta I'd agree with you. It sounds like 1 month. They need everyone they can get.

You're right. Help the rest of us who already pre-paid out and pre-pay too.

I am still hesitating on pre ordering, main concern is about the command pass, i need clarification about it (all future dlc'c included ?), what about if i pre order after the start of the beta (and after i get clarification about command pass of course), will i have access to it ?

Command pass is a plus, a sort of BF3 "Premium" (not exactly the same): you get some things for free when they get released after game release (some DLCs for example) and you get discounts of what you can buy in the store.

It is a plus as I said, if you just want to play the multiplayer you can definitely buy the standard edition (and eventually buy the command pass later on in the store, when it will become available)

¿Is there some technological issue on steam to allow euro-keys to acces the steam client files? I think they need 2 versions of the game, one that doesn't uninstall when beta finish for pre-orders, and another auto-uninstall when it's done (like alpha).

? your question doesn't make a whole lotta sense... if you want to make sure your stuff doesn't get deleted, make a copy of the files. in case you want to do it to save download time, you probably won't save a lot (if any), since they'll probably patch the game after beta, and since steam will probably recognize it as a "new" game and recognize the files being different, it will re-download the game files. you might try disabling "auto-patching" in steam (right click game in library, properties, updates, "do not automatically update this game") in case you wannt to keep the beta in your library.. but still, i'd back the files up just to be sure.
