does this mean that we wont be able to have different sound packs? I have the US version, and I want the germans to speak german....and what about the skins?

I already have the steam verson installed, with skin-packs and sound-packs. No problem, just install them along-side the original files, not on top of them.

So, basically this means that everything will be reset to zero and everyones account will be there Steam-account? This means cheaters will be banned permanantly since its there Steam-account? Am I getting this right?

Ahh shit we have got to redownload the whole game with all the patches aswell again? Last time that occured I had to space it over 2 months just because my download limit 
Edit: Oh wait server change on May 7th. Monthly internet download refreshes on the 10th. This might just work

Steam automatically downloads the latest version of the game. No more hours of patching the old way

If you have true problems even to download the latest ver, u can try copy ur original COH files to location where Steam's COH will be about to put them..., then start Steam-download. System should replace the files which does not match, but skip those who does... (not sure tho how the Steam-download process works exactly)

I cant understand the COH1 bit , What should we do to keep playing post 8th .Sorry , I am a noob when it comes to tech talk .
1). Post 8th should i just re-download the game and use my retail key . Or is there some thing i am missing .
2). If its a steam account , Can i use my retail version Key , Or should i purchase the game again via steam .

I have already activated vCOH on Steam, so I think there won't be much hassle there. You'll need steam, though.

My first, giddily optimistic impression was that this could mean the end of smurfing, drophacks, and NAT errors but after thinking about it further they're very unlikely to touch anything at that level

It will be super interesting, so see what "many" features means. Sounds like it is not going to be exactly the same.

I had a chat with Quinn and while I can't specifically mention what we talked about I can tell you that their mid-term plan is to evaluate the possibility (that is quite concrete from his words) to add some of the COH2 new features into COH1. The first impact with this transition to Steamworks could indeed mean less features at the start (he didn't know himself exactly which features may be disabled/changed on April 8th, they are still figuring it out with Smoking Gun Interactive).
