When you copy an idea so directly as using the same symbols and terminology "upvotes".

It's usually better to acknowledge it, i.e. this is from reddit, you've directly copied reddit's system, and you haven't made it very unique to yourselves. Not that there's any copyright issues with that, just that it's cooler to acknowledge it.

Also: "Please note that before your trending becomes visible, a staff member (Blue level or above) will make sure that your post is appropriate and Company of Heroes related." that's directly at odds with the idea of trending and users expressing themselves, it may be better to remove bad content once its been posted.

Even reddits system is not unique and copied. We didn't claim that our system is unique, at least not me. Didn't read the tutorial :)

We discussed this a lot intern, with other staff members as well. I'm on your side, but we will see. Its pretty dynamic, so we can change it easily :)

Reasonable response, as I say it's a cool idea, but if not 'directly copied from', 'directly inspired by' would be a better way of saying it.

This was my design, and if I was gonna give credit, I would give it to mlb.com. Their highlight videos in "TRENDING NOW" are what we're trying to capture here. We're not trying to rebuild reddit. We want to highlight great COH stream moments. This site is all about supporting livestreamers and events.

Stephenn going nuts when his demo kills the stug and puma is a perfect example of what we're after! :) We really hope you like this new feature. It's been a long time coming and a lot of work.

I don't see upvote and downote arrows on the mlb website....

Just admit it! You directly copied that concept from Reddit, it's not too much of an admittance, it's fine to take ideas from other places, you just give due credit. Let me create an image that accurately depicts the 'similarities'.

Here you go, try and tell me you didn't directly copy reddit's system!

At the time we started thinking and designing the Trending Box, around July 2012 approx, that option was still on mlb and it was a major feature :) There would be absolutely no problem admitting it A_E if it was true, we wouldn't gain nor lose anything, it's just not how things went, really trust me ^^

Reddit is much more complex and detailed than our system. You can just vote on our Trending Box and nothing else and it's fine as it is, we just want COH contents from our users highlighted a bit more on our website, and Trending Box will also become part of our economy system since the most voted Trendings will get users who uploaded them unlocks and experience in the future.

I do see that they are very similar from reddit image you provided but I assure you it was totally unintentional, I'm pretty sure we never ever mentioned Reddit on our discussion about designing this new feature :)

Should reddit have a box on every page that gives credit to Digg? You are putting too much time and energy into this for how silly what you're saying is. Oh wait, Digg actually got the up and down vote concept from Slashdot, so maybe Coh2.org should have an explanation that they got the idea from mlb.com, who probably got it from reddit, who got it from digg, who got it from slashdot.

I don't think three comments constitutes that much time and energy if I'm honest. As I say, if you look at the graphical similarities, I don't think I'm being unreasonable to say that it looks near enough identical to Reddit in particular, not like Digg/ Slashdot/ MLB/ Google/ HairyMilfs.com which although have a similar idea of voting look very different.

It's fine to use ideas, I'm merely pointing out that they clearly used one particular idea in this case. And as Marcus says, I may be wrong about the conceptualisation, but in the execution the similarities are quite eerie......

Hahaha seeing this stuff whilst I ate my breakfast was a nice way to start the morning! I really do quite like this additional trending feature. Lets you clearly see all the great visual content of the community which is sometimes buried in a thread which you just not might open or miss. Good job on it! :)

The system is similar to Reddit in voting, but still remains different since it is primarily visual based (picture news feed) and no comments. Reddit doesn't provide you with that initial clear picture, but has the comments which go into great discussion. Both are good in their own right.

clicking on vids should open them in a new tab on default. Now you lose visitors using the trending system.

I agree completely. I'll try to get the coders to make that change, particularly if your "Board Settings" in your user profile are set to "Open Links in New Tab."
