I agree. This balance changes actually look pretty good and finally some new maps! All in all better than I expected, even if it did take 6 months. |
It can be tough but you have several options. Airborne is a solid doctrine choice because without paratroopers your infantry are going to get out-traded hard by lmg grens. Infantry is also good for the m1919s and the priest. M8s are your best friend here. They'll deal with infantry and support weapons effectively as long as you're vigilant and keep them out of trouble. Maybe pick up a pack howitzer for some more indirect firepower. That's really the key. If you can keep on top of your micro you can dodge air attacks without too much trouble and bleed your enemy well enough to stay in the game. That's my best advice. |
I would also much rather have a mortar than a panzerwerfer. If by some miracle you can tech to t4 as Ostheer then I hope you have the common sense to get one of the other units to actually try to win the game. |
Unlike the allied medium tanks, panthers need to be used incredibly defensively in order to keep them alive. Think about the power spike when a double t34/85 call in hits the field; its almost always accompanied by a major Soviet push. The panther doesn't give that same benefit. For ostheer especially it only comes out by the time the faction is on the defensive against heavy/numerous enemy vehicles. Then it's still an uphill battle.
I'd agree that it may be too cheap for OKW considering their cheaper/more beneficial teching, but the unit itself is fine. Both E8s and 34/85s require 0 tech which makes them easily spammable. Personally in 1v1s I don't often see panthers and I can't recall ever having particular trouble beating them. |
This is an interesting point. Medium tanks are built because they are cheaper and come out sooner than heavy tanks, but in what 1v1 has the mobility of a medium tank ever given it an advantage over a heavy? I think a speed/acceleration change for heavies is a good way to make the tank dynamic more interesting without breaking other balance issues. |
I think fixing this is just a matter of 1 or 2 specific changes. The mg42 needs better suppression or possibly faster targeting to make it a reliable early game blob counter. The 222 isn't bad but it could use a slight health/armor buff. I think that grens are in a pretty decent spot as is.
Making ostheer teching slightly faster is pretty needed and better maps as luvnest pointed out. I don't think these relatively minor changes are beyond the capabilities or relic, except for maybe the map thing. |
I love going CAS in 1v1s but it does have many drawbacks. The reason I love playing it so much is it allows me to not tech up past t2 and rely on solely infantry for the whole game. That's not a play style that you see often in coh2 but its a lot of fun.
The AT strafe is actually pretty awful. In probably 10+ 1v1s with CAS I don't think I've ever managed to destroy a U.S. vehicle with it. It costs a ton and is incredibly easy to dodge. 110(?) muni is incredibly expensive for an easily readable one-pass ability. As others have said you are probably confusing it with the very strong strafe in lightning war and possibly other docs as well. |
The fact that Stalingrad is still an automatch map is tragically hilarious.
Keeping the current meta in mind I would say langres or crossing because they're pretty symmetrical and the open fields of fire allow rifle and volk blobs to be more easily caught in the open and suppressed, which somewhat balances the game.
If some of the blobbing issues were addressed then I might say Kholodny Summer |
I'm torn between my love for Cynthia and the overwhelming attractiveness of this newly revealed communications manager. |
Forget balance issues, I just want my Ostheer P4s back. The P4J one's look so much worse.... What reason could they possibly have changed them? |
