Making the ISU entity that populates the ISU squad have the ability only under the circumstances of the tank hunter commander is a little more convoluted.
Essentially the ISU unit and squad would have to be cloned, given, or stripped of, the unique abilities. And then tied to a callin ability for that commander, entirely separate from other ISU instances.
Totally feasible, but the exact kind if bloating process that is at the root of so many imbalances and inconsistencies that these patches are ostensibly trying to fix. The grens that come with an lmg42 in a 250 HT as a callin are an example of this.
It'd be easier to just give the tank hunters commander the existing ISU callin, but modify the shell switching ability so it's not available for tank hunter doc.
Well, that's also the option to modify switching ability. I just feel like this Tank Hunter doctrine has nothing to do with hunting tanks. It feels rather like tricky AT ambush doctrine. I mean, am I supposed to hunt Axis' heavies with PTRS and camo T34/76? Seems rather tricky. Fun to use, sure, but nothing about hunting and destroying armor.
I have no idea how modding tools work but if team could bring new abilities like raid tactics or cluster bombs, making a "new" ability with AT ISU for Tank Hunter isn't a big deal.
We have to be consistent here, if this doctrine was to have the ISU-152 it would have to be exacly the same ISU-152 as other doctrines or all other ISU's would have to change to this one with only AT rounds. Imo the best tank for this doctrine is the t-34-85 because it's very mobile and has a better gun to hunt down heavier tanks and still make this commander viable for 1v1's.
I'd like to see ISU152 call-in with only AT rounds. That would be neat and would suit theme of this doctrine much more than AT Gun camo for example. Instead we have very tricky commander which definetly won't become meta or any near it. Just fun to use but nothing special.
... Which still doesn't give KV1 any special purpose It's not fast operating medium, nor heavy hitting medium, nor even a damage sponge, nor sluggish heavy tank.
Why would I pick 1 KV1 over almost 2 T34/76 or over T34/85? If the answer (for 85) is "howizter" I consider this as a very bad answe becasue, like I said, KV1 still has no purpose in current state.
I don't think the Munitions argument is valid. They just reworked Recon support to have 5 abilities which cost or imply the usage of munitions through upgrades or abilities and I think that's fine, and that doctrine has received a lot of positive feedback. The abilities here do not overlap in function, eg. mines, off maps, infantry upgrades, they can be all used at different phases of the game.
To me storm doctrine does not scream scout car that hunts tanks in the puma. Puma could probably work though. Don't see a balance issue or it being useless, may suffer a bit without smoke though.
Command tank and Artillery are in mechanized
Mortar HT and artillery are in festung support.
Assault grens could actually work but they aren't very good
Well, even if you don't find ammo argument valid, there is still huge overlap between Storms and PzGrens with ambush camo - in other words it feels like a huge waste to spare this one ability for something that is avaible even without it It's like adding stuka some drop to a commander that has panzer tactican. Sure they are not the same but they would overlap in 9/10 cases.
All of these would create doctrinal overlap, Jaeger officer, artillery officer, Gren ht, mortar ht. Not fit the theme- ostruppen, command tank, puma, elephant(also overlap with jaeger armor). Create balance issues-Tiger, Tiger ace
This leaves pgren halftrack and stormtroopers to me. But since its STORM doctrine, i like stormtroopers.
They are just finalizing the patch now so i suggest this instead of a double sprint and b/c it would be the easiest to get the scope for if it is even possible to add.
(if i forgot a callin call me out tho)
Not sure why Puma or Command PzIV don't fit doctrine. They look fine for me and would give this doctrine huge bust. Putting in Stromtroopers just because they are "storm" will kill this doctrine and there will be hardly any point to call them in since you can get stealth PzGrens. It also doesn't change the fact that this doctrine in munition-heavy and another muni ability (stormtroopers) is kinda pointless.
I guess the best solution would be to give this doctrine Puma, Cmd PzIV or mortar HT. Anything taht does not cost ammo.
You just can't put in one commander abilities which consume ammo:
- Ambush + Sprint
- Riegel mines
- Stuka Dive bomb
and one more
- stormtroopers which need 100 ammo for an stg upgrade.
You simply cannot do that.
AssaultGrens might be an option tho. They are offensive unit and they don't overlap with PzGrens.
Is there any chance of getting STORMtroopers in STORM Doctrine? Can it be put on the docket for next Balance preview if not this one?
It just seems to make sense especially with ambush and tactical movement overlapping
IMO this is probably bad idea. Firstly, Stromtroopers are werid unit which has no special purpose and they overlap a bit with PzGrens, but secondly (and mainly) they are munition-heavy unit in doctrine that is already relying on muni (camo upgrade, riegel mines and dive bomb). Thirdly, with camo upgrade they would even more overlap with a PzGrens in terms of stealth.
In other words, there is a chance to make one more OST commander very, very useful and it cannot be dissmied so easily by putting in it Stromtroopers which will kill this opportunity.
P.S. I always compare with commandos, because I think that units have the same role on the battlefield - invisible elite squad for flank attacks and wiping hmg/atguns crews.
UPD. About fausts: my idea with FG42 upgrade by 100 muni cost will make impossible to spam them in early/mid game and make impossible to use few pantherfausts in the same time everywhere.
But Falsch and commandos are competly different types of infantry.
It's impossible to spam them even without upgrade. You will bleed yourself out.
Like mentioned above. In current shape it has no meaning. Not a damage sponde, nor a heavy tank, nor medium tank. You can't mass them becasue they will be useless in numbers opposite to T34s and single one also won't give you anything.
Make it on pair with Churchill and increase price accordingly so even one KV1 has a meaning of a fatty damage sponge. Give it reason to exist becasue currently it has none.
