As a pure Russian player with average abilities who uses maxims and shocks... I see extremes in German players. Newbs with no micro who run straight into the arc, suppressed and mortared and then good players who just flank you with superior micro and with the changes to rotation you have to instantly retreat or lose the gun. These players will beat you before you can call in the shocks troops and you can guarantee you have just lost the fuel war all before 2CP. Maxims need an interference troop such as shocks to truly shine. Still what is considered spam ... I start with 2 Maxim, then a mortar then build another maxim to push an area of the map. Hopefully by then I can call in a shock or I build another mortar. I'm thinking I should change it up to a conscript after the first maxim to run interference earlier. So is that spam or combined arms? It certainly isn't a blob as your maxims are spread out or you have no map presence.
As a soviet player I like using shock troops but only 1 or 2. Any more than that they become a huge manpower drain. They cannot take on vehicles so chase them around and bleed MP. 3-4 shocks ... that player will have no MP left to build anything if you keep sending them back to his base.
It also lets you know a tank is near by. IF your troops are spread out and you are looking at the right side of the map and then a tank zips past on the left shouldn't the troops shoot at it and light up their icons letting you know it's there before it slips back into the fog of war OR stay silent holding fire?
At least my eyes can't be everywhere on the screen at once.

I giggle at the term esports ... this isn't sports. It's just as competitive, it's mentally draining, and I am in awe of some peoples reaction times ... but it isn't sports, but I guess it's the best title they could come up with. I guess that's why I'll never be competitive at it ... I like to go outside.

.... but there were no Obersoldaten in WWII the way Relic is depicting them ... This is la-la land. Their were Russian shock troops.
Other German elite troops that were 'real' should get buffs and take this garbage out of the game if the plan is to represent WWII in a game. Otherwise bring on the zombies, robots and monsters.
Listen to inverse ... he knows. I expect that with all of the changes adding in Western Front and all of the increased traffic and depending on what you connection is to the battle servers these things are going to happen. I really doubt there are hundreds of network hackers out there playing this game and wasting their time looking for a win by drop hacking. IT's not a simple thing to do anymore.
