Or his computer porn collection is now self aware.
that would be so awesome :-D
nah, but actually i was playing LoL the entire time and only played 1 game vs. ai yesterday and havent even started the beta test since then.
Btw Noun: you added me on steam, but for me it says that you haven't been online in a week? |
NDA is in beta forum
edit: oops, sry... should have refreshed the thread before posting ^^ |
@ipkai
Wow, these changes are SO obvious and make the game so much better..... not MVGame
I at least have some hope left that someone at relic (quinn maybe?) is gonna see the light and that they do adjust the UI at some point. Maybe a year from now...
I can still not understand how anybody (especially dudes that are designing UIs for a living) could look at that layout and think "oh yeah, way better than coh". And the beta forum pretty much said the same thing. |
Try renaming your steam account, afaik that should work.
at least it did a few weeks ago :-)
a friend of mine renamed his steam account to have the same name as mine, and suddenly he had my stats, and i had his (none). pretty funny... but also pretty abusable if he could also get stats for me for playing with my name MVGame |
they have said multiple times that stuff like world-builder, mod-tools, observer mode etc. will not be in the game on release, but are on the road map for post release. whether that might be 6 months or 6 years after release they didnt say.
the logic behind it is that they will not be able to include these features because there is not enough time until release.
maybe their business model is genius: trying to attract all the casual (basic) gamer, comp stomper, scheldt like crowd (because it is bigger), letting them build up knowdledge about the game and then turning them into competitive gamers. isn't that how most people got to coh?
i'm not saying i like it, quite the contrary, but it might, it just might be genius. |
I think those are actually some of the hardest to fix - stuff like upkeep and so on can be fixed just by changing numbers in some spreadsheet. Changing the UI requires artists to draw new assets, UI programmers to program new UI elements, UI designers to make sure they work for different resolutions, etc. I think it's far more work to change something like the UI and for that reason I'm not to sanguine on the chances of large changes, although the feedback has been so resoundingly in favor of changes that maybe Relic will listen (they did move the commander UI from its location in the Alpha).
having some experience in the UI design process (albeit not a whole lot) i can second that.
even minor changes to the UI have to go through the whole "pipeline" (don't forget QA either).
changing stuff like a panthers penetration is very easy, the only stuff they probably do is discuss it beforehand. from experience i can tell that most of the balance testing is done later on live anyway MVGame |

+300 :-P
(you do get a few "free" units though, meaning that you are only being taxed once you go over the threshold)
@crackbarbie:
a reasonable suggestion, but imho it would make it too easy to "spam" caches, if only to delay capturing if points... as in "i know i can't hold this sector, so i'll just build a cache, deny the resources for a longer time and all it costs me is a tiny amount of manpower that i trade in for ammo/fuel"
reducing the cost could be viable though... would need testing, but since it will not come, it's moot discussing it really ;-) |
i just had an idea.
of course it's not going to get implemented and it won't "fix" what's wrong with the upkeep system imho, but somehow i like it:
manpower income penalty the more manpower you are floating.
it not only punishes players that are not spending their manpower on units in comparison to the player that does but it also encourages less skilled players to actually play better by not floating as much.
also, with the current strat point/resource income system, i wouldn't mind for fuel/muni caches to cost upkeep too. |
Is it just me or is this "lowering the skill factor" seem to be nonsense, if you can get an early victory but still have to be on your toes to keep wining, does that not require more skill to keep wining? instead of getting really good at the early game and resting on that first victory to basically shut the game down???
Skill is determined by your ability to out think, out play and adapt.
doing the same thing every match is not necessarily skill but more repetition, which anyone can do.
No matter how easy something is you will always get the elite who excel, lower entry levels just means more competition.
read my example again:
i made a million mistakes in the early game, my opponent made 1 (losing 2 t34s in my base), maybe 2 (neglecting to cap the 3rd VP sooner) mistakes ALL game.
i won the game because his mistakes came at a later point in the game. i had about twice his manpower income and could easily get units on the field that were stronger than his units (with vet!). i do not feel like i outplayed or outthunk (he) him in any way, nor did i "adapt".
doing the same thing every game (and winning) does require some skill at least, but it rather shows that the game is not balanced if you can play the same strat over and over again.
@danielD: the "coh2 is a different game" argument is the epitome of a straw man argument, it has absolutely nothing to do with my argument. |
