Can anyone provide a numerical comparison of cover bonuses between the two games? It certainly feels less effectual (especially vs flamers, presumably there's no difference at all in flame damage vs various cover types). |
Stop losing heavy tanks in enemy territory... Is just my idea... I'll bill you. |
If you don't go for Hit the Dirt or shocktroops and you don't want to build snipers then the maxim is the hard counter to PGs. It's a bit of an inferior counter to the other options in terms of usability... but it comes out of the same tier as the mortar and the ZIS, and it's cheap and really hard to kill. |
It may seem like it removes decision making because you can set up a weapons team, but this actually adds to the amount of units that can viably harass and cap so I reckon it adds decisions. Being able to stall by blocking a capture also adds decisions.
Plus it was stupid that you had to have one soldier lean against the point, it feels a lot more natural this way. |
SU-76 barrage isnt that great tho and that tank was used as a tank destroyer and as self-propelled arty
Considering the barrage can decrew a weapons team in one shot I think it's pretty strong. Historical accuracy is nice in some games but CoH is pretty far the other direction already and gameplay > realism. |
Seriously? Tank traps were free, mines cost munitions. In fact given the current meta some tank traps would be a good way to balance the t34 spam. |
I like a lot of these changes, in particular the changes to soviet infantry and the addition of global upgrades.
I feel like it'd be really boring to play against T34 + barrage from the SU 76, perhaps simply remove the barrage ability and give it the same range as the AT gun if it doesn't have it already. |
+1 you shouldn't be able to drive into enemy territory with your T34s and kill everything without infantry spotting for you. |
Since Ostheer snipers have the ability to be camoed much more often, it's not that hard to stalk soviet snipers with your own sniper and kill 1 man. Yea it's really hard to finish them off but you can shoot at max range and back off and there's no way you can get countersniped. If he has two sniper squads just shoot at the one closer to you from max range and back off. |
Since it isn't always a good idea to ram and you can't know what's in the fog of war without scouting, it is very possible to use ram and have it end up a net loss. Yes, you wouldn't ram without an AT gun, but your opponent wouldn't put his panther in a position to be rammed without support. If it still has it's main gun even a flanking t34 will die, and the first t34 gives LOS blocking to the panther until the wreck is destroyed.
If you are truly in a position where you are 100% sure that ramming will kill the tank, it seems to me you'd be able to kill it without ramming. In a more even fight, it is very powerful to trade the t34 for another tank's combat ability, except you won't always destroy the gun, AND you could still lose the fight. Using the ramming ability is only a obvious decision when you are certain of a tactical victory, and in CoH that's never guaranteed.
Ramming does take out the man gun far too often from no matter which side it comes in.
Additionally ram could use a change to make it more interesting to play against. Having ramming T-34 only be able to travel in a straight line, and if it misses giving the T34 an engine overheated critical, for example. Adding a fuel cost is another possibility. I think it could be an interesting ability though; it's like a really expensive, really powerful grenade in that you spend resources to do damage to you opponent, but that damage is dependent upon other factors under you and your opponent's control.
It also seems to me that if the early game were more balanced ram would suddenly feel a lot less powerful. |
