Thread: Why some Russians hate COH2 [BadComedian] 2 Aug 2013, 13:22 PM Jump back to quoted post2 Aug 2013, 12:51 PMBartonPL Back on Katyń - if you use your epic english skills and watch for example one of "Apocalypse - WW2" series where Germans invaded Soviets and found Katyń forest and massive graves and Germans wrote this in newspapers in hope that Allies will stop sending resources, weapons and tanks to Soviets. That was their desperate (and mostly futile) attempt to bring discord into the relationship between the Allies. The expert commission of 1943 brough to the site by Germans wasn't allowed to excavate the graves or even examine the bodies - they saw only what the Germans showed them. Then they were loaded into a plane and told that if they don't sign an "objective conclusion" they are all going to die in that plane. Soviet commission was sent when the graves were discovered in 1944, headed by the chief of the forensic medicine, which also included British and American journalists and politicians. Well, i doubt that Germans could find time for killing 21,5 thousand of polish prisoners when they were advancing into Soviet territory. This makes is just as much sense as saying "Well, I doubt Germans could find time for killing 33 thousands of Jews in Babiy Yar when they were advancing into Soviet territory". In: Lobby

It still doesn't mean the conclusions were true. Yes, it's probably shocking that a government body works against its own country, but it is so. Many documents on case #159 of Prosecutor General were forged or unojective. For example, the format of some documents used as evidence in the investigation were written predated 1940. Also, a large number of blank forms and forged NKVD staps was found later on. I don't question execution of some Polish prisoners, however - for their own crimes, such as extermination of Soviet POWs in Polish camps, after the Polish-Soviet war of 1919-1921. In: Lobby

FAR. just read this thread. There's absolutely no proof of Katyn massacre being commited by the Soviets. Rather than that, the whole story was started off by Nazis. Moreover, there's a ton of evidence, pointing out that it was performed by Nazis. It's really simple: commit a crime and accuse someone else of it. Therefore, retelling the tale of "evil Russians executing tens of housands of Poles" is actually retelling Goebells' lies (perhaps without knowing it). And just like this one, the rest are made up to support the image of "evil Russians" and "bloody Stalin". In: Lobby

There's enough analysis about the so-called "Purge" of 1937-38, GULAG, penal units etc, backed up by concrete historical documents. The real scope pretty well-defined and cross-checked with other data. As for Soviet war-crimes - you can't criticize something that didn't really exist. Of course, there were solitary cases of rape and plundering in Germany after it was defeated, but the civilians' complains were accepted, and soldiers guilty of the crime were caught, court-martialed and punished for it (up to execution in front of the unit).
