Ok tried to install it, it said something like "detecting existing files", so I thought...good. Then when I returned it said it's busy downloading remaining files or something. I thought, well ok probably some patch or something, or fixing files. No, it seemingly deleted my 17GB Coh2 folder, kept 1.2GB of it that it decided is part of the "existing files", and now wants to download 15GB. I even checked HD space, no space gained from the now missing 15GB. So this results in a few nights of downloading for me now. I'm just going to get something else to play, probably just had an urge to play a skirmish anyway. |
Maybe the game has developed self-aware AI...and felt shame at the current state of the multiplayer and decided to terminate itself...that's my professional opinion.
Your professional opinion seems like something out of a perfect world ha (or maybe an annoying one, since I wouldn't want programs doing stuff on their own because they think it's for the best without my consent) either way good one!
Have you done a virus scan? I think you may have the 289_A.fungkiip.backdoor trojanne, but I'm not sure. Definitely worth scanning for, though.
Basically, it will uninstall random programmes (including games in your Steam directory) if you ALT - TAB or ALT - F4 enough. Not sure why; maybe Janne will know.

Hope that helps.
I am doing a full system virus scan at the moment, as well as for malware etc, will see what comes up, thanks for the info!
Happened to me once. ALL my games were suddenly "uninstalled", even though the game files still existed in their directories.
The fix was simple; I clicked on install on one of the games. As soon as it started installing, it found the pre-existing game files, so I didn't actually have to download anything.
Yes, this is what I'm hoping for, will reply back when I've had the time to try this.
yeah, the game is telling you to take a break.
If the game is telling me to take a break then it's telling me to not play at all since I haven't been playing for a few weeks now
One thing that did happen, since I haven't played in a while, is Steam suddenly asking my password again when I logged on, thought nothing of it, it's been a while, and then Steam also wanted me to confirm my email address once I was logged on, also thought nothing of that, but then CoH2 was uninstalled, it's far fetched but I changed my password just in case. No other games on my account was uninstalled though. |
Well, like the title says, the game now shows "install" instead of "play" (obviously meaning I've had it installed and been playing it previously), and when I click install, it wants 36GB hard drive space for the installation. I checked my steam folder, the game is still there (about 17GB). Has this happened to anyone else at some point? I'm just confused to what happened now, as if I were to download presumably 36GB, it will take days to do as I can only download at night time (I get shaped otherwise because of cap, ..because of where I'm from..)
So bottom line, has anyone ever experienced something like this and know a possible way to fix it? How does the game just suddenly become uninstalled according to Steam anyway? |
That, and now this:

All this is not really even bothering me all that much, since it's most probably a fault on their side which will be fixed, or I'm just not caring anymore lol. I really liked pop cap increase mod, now sometimes I have to destroy my own artillery pieces etc. to be able to build other stuff or new one's closer to the front lines, hope that also get's fixed (mods enabling). So I'm just getting use to things working and then breaking again for no apparent reason. |
Me and my friend is trying to play, however almost every time either me or him get's kicked out of the game with a message stating that the game has lost connection with Relic server, something along those lines, i'll post a screen shot as soon as I encounter it again which will probably be in the next hour or so, can be at start or mid game or end doesn't matter, just that it happens almost every match now. Not sure if this has something to do with new updates or something? I constantly get to download some update of 13.6 mb, wonder why. |
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks that helped a lot!
I was looking around the internet trying to find a solution to this problem and all I could ever really find was my game or steam must be in compatibility mode and that's what's causing the problem. No, although for some this might be it, but surprise surprise wasn't for me.
So process of elimination and here we are, glad I could be of help to you! |
This is one thing that bothers me sometimes about sequels in games.
In CoH1 the AI knew, and did repair bridges if you destroyed them. In CoH2 the AI has no idea how to do it. So now all the AI does when you have blown up all the bridges is run with all their units to the closest points on their side of the river nearest to wherever they're trying to attack you. Which just make them look really stupid and allows me to rocket or artillery fire them easily.
While on the repair subject, a friendly AI do know that your own engineers are able to repair their tanks, and thus crowd your engineers sometimes in the hopes that you will repair their tanks for them, this is when they don't have engineers of their own nearby and also of note this has not been happening too much, but when it does it makes it hard to move your stuff around because of them crowding you.
One thing that's cool though, the Soviet AI know how to use artillery pieces, not the German AI though, as appose to CoH1 where no AI knew how to use them.
Lastly I'm glad the AI don't know how to blow up bridges, that might currently break the game against AI on some maps. |
Me and a friend who likes playing against computer opponents can for some reason now not play, whenever we click the start button it says "please wait..." and then after a short while the message just disappears and it's not putting us through into the game. This never use to happen. Can still play against computer if we try without inviting each other, have checked for any compatibility modes that might have been on somewhere. Only difference there is now compared to last week when we could still play is we put a increase pop mod on, which we have also turned off to see if that could have caused the problem. Nothing works. Any ideas?
Edit: We fixed it, we noticed that apparently CoH2 has a custom map "limit", which seems to be 25. Once we had more than 25 we could not play. Having only 25 and the game works fine. |
I understand, I was just trying to say why I read this thread before. But didn't respond to it. (courtesy response on your question)
Issuing attack order means that your units will stop at sight of first enemy unit and engage it, most players will not like that happening because they will only move unit to execute tactical move (cap point, flank, etc) Most players don't want their Panther to stop and engage eng squad, leaving it vulnerable to AT gun attack, unless they decide to stop panther to attack target of opportunity.
Hence there isn't much response.
For me attack move is liability move and I would never use it (I think most players would feel the same)
I understand, and I agree with you. I should have titled this threat something like "Enemy HQ still a target after being destroyed." Would have made more sense. |
no offense, but I don't think this is a huge issue or really bothers anyone and can easily be avoided by not using attack move in that scenario but I might be wrong. It's always a good thing though to log these kind of bugs.
Non taken, and I realize this is obviously not a big issue to 99 percent of the people based on the attention this gets (and on the official Company of Heroes forum when someone else made a post about this)
Lastly, it's still a bug even if this is put on low priority, as long as it gets fixed one day. |
