Obviously I don't speak in any way whatsoever for Relic, however I imagine their process is quite different than this community process.
Based on how other companies in the industry operate I would wager that Relic has (or at least had) some sort of tool that either looks for third-party applications running, or (to put it simply because it is slightly more complicated and technical than this) asks the game client a "question" and the anti-cheat tool knows an expected "answer." If this "answer" is different than the expected/known answer this would be an indication of a modified client, or their tool might do both of these things. Or it might look at the hash values of game files during gameplay to check for modifications. There are many ways they could go about it.
In the case of an anti-cheat tool like this, the accounts flagged by such a tool will be *highly* likely to be cheating in some manner.
All this is to say that, because Relic owns the game and presumably has access to tools that the community does not, the accounts that Relic flags and ends up banning are almost certainly guilty of some sort of an offense. A community investigation on the other had tends to be more subjective because of the implicit biases (good or bad) that players have between each other and the fact that it is more difficult to make a judgement call when it can't be definitively proven that, at a minimum, SOMETHING fishy was going on with a third party application or with the game client itself.
To suggest that Relic bans people on a whim is laughable. It's not at all in their best interests as a company.
Edit: Not going to edit the content of my post, but I wanted to add that Relic says that they have proprietary anti-cheat software in their community code of conduct: https://community.companyofheroes.com/discussion/246443/community-code-of-conduct

Raz == Dbmb == Zed03 Deadbolt =\= Seeking Regardless of Seeking playing on the account, they're not the same person in the way that Raz WAS Dbmb and Zed03. In: Lobby |

Regarding Raz/Dbmb, he did make arguments like "oh I heard the tanks in the fog/saw trees falling/etc but there are two major differences. First of all, we KNEW for sure that he had a history of map hacking. On top of that... story time... During one of Ami's (I think it was Ami) tournaments, Raz/Dbmb was doing well and there had already been questions about the legitimacy of his play so I did some research. Dbmb, by his own admission, was Raz. Somehow or another I stumbled upon an account by the name of Zed03 on a video game hacking forum (name retracted here for obvious reasons, the name was provided to the appropriate people at the time). This account was actively discussing precisely how to map hack in COH2. And I don't mean just "lul some1 give me hax" I mean he was discussing how to write custom software to map hack. There also happened to be a reddit user by the name of Zed03 that had leaked a pastebin link containing exact patch notes from an upcoming COH2 patch on the COH subreddit. If my memory serves, Raz leaked the exact same link on the coh2.org forums. At this time I had access to COH2 patches ahead of time as part of a group of players that helped Relic test balance, commanders, etc. Raz asked me to run IDAPro against COH2 patches and offered to provide me with a cracked copy of the program. I refused. Back to Zed03, after digging through Zed03's post history, it turned out that Raz and Zed03 had a LOT in common. They lived in the same place, they played the same games, they had the same job, they shared the same hobbies, they were the same ethnicity, etc. There was an absolute mountain of evidence that linked them as the same person. There was also a Reddit post by Zed03 directly linking to Raz's steam account (he was looking for people to play a game with). So yes, Dbmb tried to argue that he wasn't hacking and just had game sense etc etc, but he had a history of hacking AND was directly tied to an account that was actively discussing writing a hack for COH2. The cases are quite different. Furthermore, even with ALL of that evidence, the admins of said tournament chose to wait until a few minutes prior to the match to privately tell Dbmb that he had been disqualified. And as it turns out, Dbmb was banned by Relic shortly thereafter in another map hacker ban wave. Fun fact, he has been banned at least three times over by Relic. In: Lobby |

You already knew what I would say because of my opinion of Seeking? I barely know him. I've never played with or against him (that I know of/remember) and have only cast a few of his games during one of Currahee's tournaments. But all right. Do you mean the sniper going for a counter snipe with the recon run on Eindhoven? Maybe I can dig up the replay or get a longer clip of that but I'll try to add it tomorrow if I have time. I would have to look at any difference in the way he plays/looks into the fog at another time. This document was already quite time consuming and I don't have to time to dig deeply into that right now. Maybe I can tackle it another day if people are interested. I have looked at it briefly, but it is going to be difficult because some clips are played at 1/4 speed, some at half, some at normal, some at 2x, etc. Also people are going to play differently in a tournament setting versus automatch or scrim games. Just because you never look into the fog with WASD doesn't mean other people won't. This is a non-starter kind of point to make. It's not like every tactical map player plays exactly the same. Me mentioning the WASD camera movement was to point out that his camera movement will naturally look different than a tact map player, and since he has to order units on his screen (rather than tact map or minimap), he's going to "look" at the fog more... not because he's looking - because he's ordering movement. There are numerous examples of: look at a spot, 0.5 seconds later a nearby unit is moving towards that spot. As for the links at the end, I'm not accusing anyone of maphacking, I'm just pointing out some moments that *could* be taken as suspicious to show that weird things happen in CoH2. In the first clip the REs are a pixel outside of MG range, if some one were actively looking for map hack evidence, they would probably point to this. You are adding the context of spotting scopes to the panther in the second clip. If we had only seen 10-15 seconds of a dive bomb landing on cloaked AT guns, it might look suspicious. Again, you're adding context to the third clip - which is exactly my point. Out of context, benign things can look suspicious when in reality they aren't. Correct, the motivation would be there for tournament games, but those seemed like the least suspicious clips (except MAYBE the AssGrens sprinting). I was saying that most (not all, just most) of the evidence used comes from automatch where there would be little to no motivation. A tournament veteran shouldn't get "psyched out" by losing some games (they won some games too from what I understand) in automatch. That argument is borderline conspiracy theory territory. I'll see about going through the google doc now that you added the replays (much appreciated by the way). Unfortunately the naming convention is awkward so it would take some time to get to a specific replay. In: Lobby |

Yup. You can even expand it further. Not everyone has a good memory period. Not that this is a court of law by any means, but that is why no lawyer will ever suggest speaking to the cops (even though the cops lie and tell you that it will help - it won't) because you could remember something wrong or the cops could remember something that you told them wrong. In either case you can end up looking bad even if there was no reason to look bad in the first place. I'm not blaming Brosras or suggesting that he did anything out of malice, but it would have helped a lot if we had more context for most/all of these clips from the outset. In: Lobby |
Thread: Top level player allegedly maphacking in CoH2 15 Mar 2021, 19:42 PM
With the context of Kimbo's VOD, the gren/volk blob had been spotted a good 10-15 seconds prior to the Katy firing AND they were spotted moving in a particular direction from when the blob pushed back the Paras/Scott/Jackson. I don't think there is anything shocking about pre-firing on a blob when you know their location/direction of movement. That being said, assuming that was the case, he shouldn't have claimed to have seen the Gren model. However, he's also under a lot of stress and being cornered into trying to remember his thought process throughout numerous games across a span of days so making up a justification isn't surprising. But simply saying "I can't remember" would have been better. Ultimately, the short snippet that your clip shows makes things look worse than they were. Within the context there seems to be no foul play. In: Lobby |

I have a feeling based purely on the 2v2 clips of seeking and kimbo playing together, that some of the actions may have been influenced by kimbo asking seeking to fire/move at a certain location where he sees/senses something was present on the battlefield, as we only see the fog of war for seeking, not Kimbo, in these clips. Both were present on voice chat for almost all 2v2 clips as well. I think getting Kimbo's two cents (although he has a troubled past due to the Tightrope tourney smurfing controversy) would give us some of the missing pieces to the puzzle of suspicion, and clarify why seeking made some of those gameplay decisions (like the t70 clip). Seeking and Kimbo would have the same line of sight/fog of war though, because they're on the same team. One thing that might be worth considering, based on more clips and some of Seeking's streams that I watched, is the way he moves his camera (with WASD) is different than most/all other top players. Because he tends to move his camera to a spot, and then order units/vehicles to move to that location, he's naturally going to spend more time panning his camera around or "looking" into the fog than a player who frequently uses the tactical map would. Food for thought at least. In: Lobby |

I have a good enough grasp of the situation to have formed the opinion that the initial way this was handled was not optimal. Again, my opinion. I understand the pressure that you were under and realize that you have since apologized to Seeking about some of the ways things were handled (which sort of makes my point for me). You could argue that it was going to go public either way but there’s a big difference in making a damning YouTube video, as one of the most prominent figures in the CoH2 community, publicly showing a list of respected community members (without their permission or knowledge) who have given their opinions on the situation, and throwing the maphacker label on him versus his rivals spreading rumors or alleging the same. Your opinion on it carries more weight, which in my opinion means you have to tread more carefully because lots of people are likely to believe what you’ve said at face value. As for barred versus suspended, we’re saying the same thing with different words. When I said he was barred from ML, I meant that currently he is unable to participate. Call it suspended if you prefer that but we’re saying the same thing in the end. And as I mentioned earlier, this is 100% your prerogative and for the record it’s a decision that I agree with. I simply disagreed with the way this way made public given the consequences *IF* it turns out that Seeking is not guilty. Because at this point his reputation is likely irreparably tarnished. I feel like you could’ve quietly suspended him in the background, he could’ve said “oh I can’t participate because something came up”, the investigation could have happened, and then the results made public if he was guilty. But yeah, just my opinion, don’t take it personally, you’re doing the best you can. In: Lobby |

No. I'm not here to defend anything or anyone. I made that pretty clear. I didn't even bring up the boosting because this thread isn't about that but since it has been mentioned - obviously the boosting isn't good but it's also unrelated to the reason he has been barred from participating in ML events and not nearly as despicable as maphacking (if that part is true).
