The book for the road was terrible. I get that he's trying to paint a bleak picture, but good god it was tedious to read..
It's for that reason I haven't seen the film. I heard mixed reviews on it. I'll wait for it to be shown on t.v
On a side note, Eastern promises was excellent. I've been a fan of Vincent Cassel since La Haine and Irreversible (although I'll never go near a fire extinguisher ever again!) |
Count me in as well. I cannot wait to start making some CoH2 maps. I was worried that they weren't gunna include anything and rely on DLC map packs.
Any talk about markers, has anyone heard? |
Thanks for your reply man,
my research focuses primarily on how the role of designer has changed through the course of (modern) gaming. going from not being a specific job in itself to becoming a fully fledged profession.
The research also goes on to look at how game design has become more of a storytelling vehicle rather than just simply providing the player with increased level of difficulty as they progress.
as a side note, I also have begun to put some emphasis on how in game tutorials have almost killed off the user manual that used to accompany most games (although that is a personal annoyance on my behalf so i'll leave that there xD)
Your replies are good. SC on Halo I remember well. the active camo elite at the end was a ballache on legendary haha.
I never had the chance to play SotC on the ps2 but I have a feeling it is similar to some of the large-monster God of War levels.
So, player immersion and a sense of freedom are important to you in level design?
If anybody else has any views I'd love to get a discussion going. need data! xD

Hi guys,
I'm doing a research project on game design and specifically level design.
I need to gather information on people's perception and opinions of levels within videos games and their good points/bad points.
So if you would like to help me out please just make a quick post and tell me;
Your age,
Your favourite 2 (or 3) levels from any computer game
What game the level(s) are from
Eventually this will culminate in me finishing writing my own guide to creating a level within coh/coh2 which I will gladly post on here once it is completed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys,
Dave |
no to mirror matches. I only play when I'm baked and now I'm gunna be shelling my own men. or are they his?... |
This is the point I was getting at. You should know the layout of the game before you start. Not have to do some research while the game is loading to find out what bonuses your opponent will have.
I read more than my fair share of expert strategies on the old GR and without them I wouldnt have even begun to get into the 1v1 or 2v2 ladders. Those expert strategies came from knowing the teams, the maps and the numbers and now this is just gunna water down a lot of these strats because there's going to be a constant shifting number table. I get that it's supposed to promote tactical gameplay and maybe it will even close the gulf between good/great players but I gotta say, I am still dubious about it. Too many cooks and all that.... |
I don't remember chess having a pre-game powerup system and it's still a solid game 500 years layer (and more if you count its ancestry). It seems to me that the game is being over-complicated for the sake of making more money.
Pay-to-win? i'm not sure
Implement unnecessary features-to-get paid? seems that way.

With this new sight system in this game, Like symbiosis said, hearing units you cannot see would be paramount. You will not be able to see soldiers moving on the other side of a hedgerow now but in real life you would be able to hear them if you were on the other side. sounds should definitely stay in FoW
Not being able to hear on-map would be crushing too. |
Hey Dane. I loved your casts man! your level of diction is fuckin' excellent to be honest.
I share his thoughts on snipers. time and time again i've had to write of soldiers in good cover -who would of otherwise won -to try to countersnipe. I don't profess to be a great micro manager myself, but having to effectively stop what your doing just to play a sniper mini game just doesn't seem a natural part of the game to me.
I would suggest that a sniper's line of sight (especially with the new FoW system, truesight, in effect) that their range be increased in a straight line exponentially but with a narrower arc of fire. Similar to a field gun, Pak, etc.
To compensate for this 'turning them into an emplacent weapon' I would have them with no set up restriction in terms of movement but when they are set up -as opposed to moving -their accuracy gains a hefty increase
Having said that, I DO really enjoy the feeling you get when you are able to send a man deep into your opponents territory and scout shit out. Cause a bit of havok.
So I dunno, maybe just make it so they only camo in cover? |
