The 210th had been holding the river crossing for a few weeks now. There had been few attempts by the Germans to take it back.
But that was about to change. A new large offensive had been ordered, and for it to work. The River crossing had to be seized. And so the 3rd Panzergrenadier division went to work
The Panzer Lehr had the momentum. The Guards Armoured division was caught wrongfooted and so was forced on the defensive as Panzers and Panzergrenadiers relentlessly assaulted it., A last stand was made in a small village.
They had been fighting all day to capture the industrial town from the Germans. As the night fell the 2nd Infantry Division settled down and prepared to get some rest.
But fate was not with them as the 12th SS Panzer Division launched an assault to retake the town.
And a propagandacast lehr covering the M4 calliope is also up
They'd managed to halt the Soviet advance for now. But for Corps headquarters that was not sufficient. The 101th Panzer Brigade had to push them back to the river or else all of their other efforts would be for naught.
So with that in mind Panzers and infantry got moving again. Ready to try again with the Russian bear.
Ahead of them German troops were advancing on the village. The men of the 5th Infantry Division were not too pleased about that. There was no armour in the nearby vicinity so all they had to rely on were bazookas and guts.
In the meanwhile the German commander was feeling confident. he had Panzers, he had plenty of sturdy troops. The village would be his.
Along with that we have a propagandareview of the recently released commanders for the OKW and USF.
Phones were ringing as reports were flooding in. The Americans were on the attack and every sector the 85th was defending was doing it's best to repel the 4th Infantry Division. Reinforced were promised but there was no timeline for their arrival.
Major General Volker decided to focus the defences around a small village and hope that would be enough to stall the enemy.
It had taken a lot of Cajoling. But Obersturmbannführer had managed it ! He'd gotten permission and supplies to pull off an assault against the 2nd Armoured Divison encamped at a small village ahead.
He'd had to make a lot of promises. Some hollow. But he knew he could do it and drive back the allies !
But would the support he needed actually be there ?
The Germans had been frustrating the allied advance for several days now. Counter-attacking left and right. In an attempt to break the centre piece of the defence. The british were enlisted as well in an all out assault.
Colonel Petrov had specific orders to seize the village up ahead. Failure to capture it could be catastrophic for the next stage of the offensive. Tanks and Penal troops were put into his control. With more to come if he needed them. But the village had to be taken by nightfall. Or else.
