Thanks for the reply. Regarding smoke, I meant smoke for covering flanking infantry for attacking Maxim/50 cal positions. |
Hello strategists, here are my questions for you:
(1) Do you use reverse movement hotkey for vehicles at all? On the one hand it is useful for avoiding the vehicle in question starting to turn around instead of moving straight backwards, although on the other hand you lose additional time on locating and pressing the U key. Maybe some of you use the grid-based hotkey system where all keys are concentrated near the left corner of the keyboard and so minimize the loss of time mentioned above?
(2) When playing as the USF I encounter something that looks like a bug but it doesn't seem this happens to others (at least as much as I've inquired): the ambulance truck stops reinforcing/healing units near it. The truck is stationary, and I have resources for reinforcing/healing, but it just doesn't happen. Am I missing something or is this a bug?
(3) From your experience, is it more efficient to use the Rifles as line infantry and Thompson Paratroopers for flanking or Browning Paratroopers as line infantry and BAR Rifles for flanking?
(4) How do you circumvent the lack of smoke abilities for OKW when facing Maxim/50 cal defensive lines?
(5) Is there a way to set up sandbags or other kind of green cover as the Ostheer, other than using doctrinal abilities like trenches? I'm pretty sure there isn't, but still wanted to double-check.
Thanks in advance. |
I think the mortar may be occasionally bugging out. I have found sometimes after ordering it to fire/barrage, the crew stand around and don't fire for whatever reason.
I can confirm experiencing this too. |
Some ideas on countering snipers + units protecting them. |
I don't believe much in weapon/camouflage upgrades' efficiency against snipers because there are lots of other threats to take into account and if you lose your squads to HE fire+snipers it's whole lot of MN gone down the drain.
Here's some of early-game units/abilities that could be useful:
(1) The Stuka Smoke Drop can allow you to deny vision/get close to snipers and the units protecting them without taking damage on your approach;
(2) The Mechanized Assault commander: The Assault Grenadiers' Sprint ability and the 250 halftrack with the Panzergrenadiers can both be used to flank and get close to the snipers while your other units draw attention;
(3) The Encirclement commander's Stormtroopers can be very efficient against snipers on maps with buildings - they can appear from a building next to a sniper and have the Sprint ability to close distance/chase them;
(4) Using a commander with the Relief Infantry can turn the manpower bleed against snipers in your favor by supplying the Osttruppen (who also are six-man squads and thus more efficient as line-holding infantry against snipers) in return for lost infantry models. |
Exactly. You just need to look at the rate of resource income in team games to see how wrong the effect of the RM systems is. They either lead to 300-500 FL float for teams that are full on popcap or constant deployment of armor for teams that have popcap to fill. |
I hate all types of blobbing so every time I play(ed) the OKW I tried combined arms. It is definitely very difficult compared to what I see most OKW players do with Schreck Volks blobs. This faction is in a dire need of changes. |
I haven't used either much (so far), although the few times I did the Close the Pocket seemed more efficient. I remember wiping almost the entire enemy army defending the island on Steppes with this barrage. The Sector Artillery efficiency depends on the size of the sector in question and where enemy troops are in that sector at the time of activation, I think. |
Added this point to the OP:
The final issue that I can think of is that of the resulting lack of strategy -- many doctrines become irrelevant because the gigantic fuel income allows players to roll out both their doctrinal armor plus non-doctrinal units. Why get an Elefant and rely on teammates to combine their Panthers with it by flanking the target I'm shooting from afar when I can get both the Elefant and the Panther and do it all on my own? This kills teamwork and team roles, with all team players being universal in their tactics, and doctrines losing strategic sense. |
This is the longest post in my life Some of the thoughts I have about them.
Good points, and I also agree on the crew weapon pickup mechanic silliness. |
