Also no one appears to have mentioned 'The Forgotten Soldier' by Guy Sajer which is a famous best seller. I found it an epic read.
Here is the 'blurb':
An international bestseller, this is a German soldier's first-hand account of life on Russian front during the second half of the Second World War.
When Guy Sajer joins the infantry full of ideals in the summer of 1942, the German army is enjoying unparalleled success in Russia. However, he quickly finds that for the foot soldier the glory of military success hides a much harsher reality of hunger, fatigue and constant deprivation. Posted to the crack Grosse Deutschland division, with its sadistic instructors who shoot down those who fail to make the grade, he enters a violent and remorseless world where all youthful hope is gradually ground down, and all that matters is the brute will to survive. As the biting cold of the Russian winter sets in, and the tide begins to turn against the Germans, life becomes an endless round of pounding artillery attacks and vicious combat against a relentless and merciless Red Army. A book of stunning force, this is an unforgettable reminder of the horrors of war. |
I don't know about "best" but I read "Tigers in the Mud" by Otto Carius last summer and I really enjoyed it.
I think it's a really interesting book if you're into tanks and particularly the German Tigers, and Jagdtigers to some extent.
I enjoyed Tigers in the Mud too.
I'd also recommend Panzer Commander by Hans von Luck. His autobiography starts before the war and continues into Russian captivity at the end. |
Don't think Ive ever managed to make much use of Relief Ostruppen because I always try to preserve squads; particularly at 6CP its hoped they all have decent vet. For my two-penneth, call-in Ostruppen reserves would be much more useful. |
Thumbs up for trying to come up with ideas on bringing practically non-existent stuff back in the game

Be a shame to put the bazooka bus out of business tho ! |
Might it be possible to add a manual RELOAD button to the Ostwind? However good it is, its little use if starting a new engagement with 1 shell firing then having to cease fire in order to reload.

Hi guys I am new to coh2. I saw there are threads on the internet about supply farming.
Today I installed cheat commands MOD as this thread suggest. I played 12 fast games and got 24000 point, only 1000 supply out of them. Then I decided to play against Easy AI without mods.
First match I failed in the beggining and I managed to win only after 20 min. I got my 2000 points. Then I decided to play better and go for a fast win only to find out this beautifull meassage "Match validation failed, no loot points." I did my best, won the AI and got 0 points. Pretty disapointing
Does anyone has any idead what exactly I have to do in a match to avoid "Match validation failed" message?
As far as I'm aware games have to last a minimum of 5 minutes to be valid. A server disconnect would also cause a validation error and if playing AI you might not find out that it has disconnected until the end |
GREAT !! Looking forward to more epic Grudge-Match casts!
Load up the soundboard and stand by to go BALLS-DEEP!

Outstanding games great casts and a heroic effort on the part of A_E and all others to put this together. Congrats Talisman on the final victory. Cheers!

Compelling viewing from start to finish. |
I have a fairly modest rig although with useful 16gb RAM. I recently installed Linux and was delighted to discover a Linux version of CoH2 is available.
The great news is that in Linux I have found that the game plays very much more smoothly. The bad news is that it is not possible to play vs players running Windows!
If you have not already, I do recommend giving Linux version a go however. As an O/S I'm delighted with the Mint version I now have; it was very straightforward to install alongside Windows too.
Be interesting to hear any other experiences of running the game on Linux. |
