As long as you have a T0 HMG42 the way it is now, you will always have an overwhelming advantage over either western faction. Its all about proper placement and it will always be far easier to place an HMG than for your opponent to dislodge one.
As we all know, hmgs are obviously the traditional counter to light vehicles and are completely relevant to this thread. |
I tend to go a bit of a different approach. I like to start off with only a vickers and uc and additional section then tech up and get a sniper (good garrison/team weapon counter in lieu of not having mortars) then go for AEC ASAP, which tends to come just fast enough to counter light vehicles. The reason I don't build that many sections is mostly so I can have a lot of midgame manpower to spend on commandos and still get other stuff like at guns or an extra sapper. I find commandos generally perform a lot better and are more efficient than tommies and can be absolutely brutal when micro'd right. That's really the only reason I ever even play brits and I might just be switching over to ost now anyway because stormtroopers are pretty much the same thing now but in an overall more playable faction tbh. |
CoH2 is pretty much unsalvageable, but I really hope that if there's ever a CoH3 that snipers are replaced by recon squads that act more like Jaeger Light Infantry or Pathfinders. With a lot of abilities (view range, mark target, maybe snipe model for muni, etc.) that will greatly supplement the other infantry but isn't as devastating on its own.

Funnily that's exactly what happened in my game - now that the OKW Elite Armour commander is actually useful, I think we're going to be seeing HEAT a lot more. And damn, that stuff is effective. If I hadn't happened to have been playing Mechanized with the better Sherman, I think I would have been screwed, but pretty sure those Shermans allowed me to scrape a win.
Still haven't had much chance to play USF but looking forward to try out some inf other than rifles for a change
Actually HEAT doesn’t affect usf that much since their tanks will almost never bounce anything anyway. IIRC the increased damage isn’t enough to let the 160 damage tanks (p4, panther, jp4) kill mediums in one less shot either, so it’s not a huge deal vs. shermans and Jacksons. I think it reduces the amount of hits that the kt takes to kill mediums by one though, and lets the puma 4 hit mediums like a tank (which is really funny and useful actually). |
*Gets one of the highest close dps weapons per gun in the entire game as a free upgrade on a squad that can now camouflage even better*
*still complains* |
They’re still the most expensive mainline infantry per model to reinforce. It’s annoying to play against but very easy to punish pretty hard with explosives or suppression. Also, I’m pretty sure lmg42 grens have more dps than the 5 man g43 grens (but the latter is obviously more durable per squad). |
Found out why on the official forums: on top of the Thompsons great profile rangers actually have a damage reduction modifier so even a direct grenade won't drop a model. Knock %10 off ever bullet too and you have a very strong squad...
On top of their RA already making every one of them Neo from the matrix. |
It's much easier to survive with Pathfinders until you get Paratroopers now, just double upgrade a tier for the CPs, you can go Captain and drop the MG to man it with Pathfinders for selfspotting more easily now too.
Having paths come at 0cp makes this strat a lot more viable now I think. Hyped that I’ll be around for the weekend to try it out lol. |
you can have fragmentation bombs, no problem.
can i have hawker typhoons then?
Lol you’d take typhoons over AT Stuka loiter? |
Haven’t had a chance to play it much but I’m very much looking forward to playing with airborne now that it’s abilities are better timed/priced. Thinking maybe rifle, path, rifle, captain to open instead of 3 rifles, officer like normal builds.
Also wanting to play with mechanized; I might actually try going 2 rifles 2 dodges since it’s fairly easy to go all of early game without losing a model with that opening, leaving you with a lot more midgame manpower than usf is usually used to. From there you can go cav rifle heavy or support weapon heavy I guess. |
