Hi there!
First off, welcome to coh2.org!
I actually wonder if CoH2 supports a native 4k resolution setting.
Either way, I would say that mid-end graphics cards are not very well suited for 4k gaming. Here is a review covering the RX580 and RX470 (go ahead and jump to the 4k Benchmarks part). If I were you, I would scale the game down to 1080p.
Another option I'd like to share with you is building your own system. For approximately the same price (a little over 2000 USD) you could get a computer with an i7-7700k, 16GB of DDR4-2400 RAM, a GTX 1080, an extra 480GB SSD to serve as your boot/game drive, and buy a separate 4K monitor.
Just my two cents, good luck with your purchases and gaming!

Thread: Commanders revamp - December patch3 Nov 2017, 05:00 AM
Just had an idea: What if we gave Elite Armor an Sdkfz. 250 Halftrack? I would give it the cost of the M3A1 scout car and a 1CP requirement. This would give the OKW an option for serious aggression in the early-mid game, and it would give OKW more build order variety. For example, Sturmpioneer-heavy builds could become much more viable now that you can put them in a Halftrack. In: Lobby |
Thread: M4C into tier 41 Nov 2017, 10:24 AM
First impressions: this post doesn't seem like it belongs in the State Office. There is a very similar question that can be asked now: why get a T-34/76 when you can get T-34/85s? Sure, you could argue that putting M4Cs in Tier 4 will make the T-34/76 irrelevant. But it already makes T-34/76s irrelevant, being CP-bound and tech-independent. T-34/85s will not take a hit. This is due to several factors: - The T-34/85 has more HP (800 vs 640) - The T-34/85 has greater max penetration (140 vs 130) - The T-34/85 has a smaller hit box size (22 vs 23) - The T-34/85 is less expensive to field (130FU vs 135FU) Of course, the M4C has the advantage of: - Higher DPM (damage per minute) Also, T-34/85s and M4Cs are mutually exclusive. Guard Motor and Armored Assault are arguably better commanders, Advanced Warfare is much more niche. Lend Lease, aside from the M4C (getting nerfed), DshK-38 (getting nerfed), and Allied Supply Drop, is quite lackluster. - Conscript repair is marginally effective. - M5 HT with Assault Guards comes far too late, and Assault Guards are paltry infantry. After the patch, I would argue that Guard Motor would be a stronger commander. Because Maxims are getting buffed into viability again, you no longer need to get a DshK to reliably suppress infantry. - Guards are a decent stopgap unit against light vehicles. - Heavy Mortars make life hell for any defensive player, or a team weapon-heavy army. - Vehicle Crew Repairs greatly decreases the downtime of a tank army. - Mark Vehicle is extremely potent against heavy Axis armor. - T-34/85s are arguably the best Soviet Medium Tank, due the fact that it is much more durable than the other two. T-34/76s still have the advantage of being quite decent against infantry stock. They are also much less expensive (300MP 80FU), allowing you to field a huge T-34/76 swarm. Of course T-34/76s are outclassed by doctrinal offerings that cost much more to field. Otherwise we would be asking the question "Why get a T-34/85 or an M4C instead of a T-34/76?" |

I would say that all active abilities that allow you to recoup losses, either through a manpower return or free squads, are all too strong. Here is what I would say is ideal: - Recoup Losses, 20MP per model, 60 sec duration, 120MU. - Osttruppen Reserves, 4 models for a new Osttruppen squad, max 2 squads, 60 sec duration, 120MU. - Rapid Conscription, 6 models for a new Conscript squad, max 2 squads, 60 sec duration, 120MU. Relic, please remember to include the 25% call-in vehicle premium without tech! Otherwise changing these commanders will be irrelevant. WM WM have a huge amount of commander ability overlap. WM commanders are all relatively decent, so no major overhauls are required. Buffing some abilities could make some commanders more of an option. - Ambush Camouflage: free of cost but unlocks at Vet 1 for MG42s, Grenadiers, and Panzergrenadiers. Also gives the squad extra accuracy for a few seconds when they attack out of camo. - Stormtroopers: spawn with grenades start on cooldown. De-cap territory 50% faster, cap territory 50% slower. Luftwaffe Supply. - Recon (4CP) replaced with Infantry Weapon Paradrop (three crates, 1x Panzershrek, 1x LMG42, 1x Flammenwerfer, for 150MU) - Stuka Dive Bombing (12CP) replaced with Team Weapon Paradrop (three crates, 1x HMG42, 1x G.W.34, 1x PaK 40, for 400MP) SU Soviets have a huge amount of commander ability overlap. - Shocks: a cost decrease to 360MP and make their grenades share a cooldown. - Guards: revert their PTRS damage against infantry (from 20 to 27). However a heavily specialized Guards squad (similar to that mentioned by Hector) also seems promising. Tank Hunter. - AT Grenade Volley combined with Conscript PTRS upgrade. - Engineer Salvage Kit merged with PMD-6M AT Mine, also unlocks the construction of Tank Traps. - ATG Ambush Camouflage (5CP). Replaces AT Grenade Volley. - ISU-152 (14CP). Replaces PMD-6M AT Mines. Conscript Support. - Conscript Assault Package (3CP) replaced with Conscript Defense Package (3CP). Gives the squad a DP-28 for 45MU. Would tie in amazingly with Hit the Dirt. - Conscript Repair replaced with KV-1 (of course, this unit probably needs an inherent Hull Down ability). USF Airborne. Everything is rather overpriced. - Pathfinder Beacon: allows reinforcement of Paratrooper-crewed team weapons. - M2HB: costs 100MU - M1 57mm: costs 150MU - P-47 Rocket Strike: decrease the rocket spawn margin from 10 to 7, should fix the rockets not hitting anything. - Paratroopers: a price decrease would be welcome. Infantry. Especially with the Priest nerf, this commander would probably be picked even less over Tactical Support. - M21 Mortar Halftrack needs to stand out over both the M1 81mm mortar and the M1 75mm Pack Howitzer. Otherwise it is simply too heavy a fuel investment. - Time on Target: needs to start firing faster, or fire more shells in total. OKW Elite Armor. - Emergency Repairs (4CP): fix the bugs. - Panzer Commander (4CP): Copy of Brit Tank Commander upgrade, mutually exclusive with Pintle MG42. - Sturmtiger: I agree with most of the changes but popcap. Feurestrum. - Thorough Salvage (removed), replaced with leIG 18 Incendiary Barrage (same as WM Sdfkz. 250/7 Mortar HT ability). - Recoup Losses: increased ability duration, increased Munitions cost to compensate. - Hetzer: KV-8 level flamer damage. Otherwise Luftwaffe could use some love. Some form of air support instead of Heavy Fortifications might go a long way. Falls need a slight durability buff (but, like all infiltration units, need to start with their grenades on cooldown). GB The Brits are kind of odd, as changing one ability in two commanders (Perimeter Overwatch: Sector Artillery for all sectors, Flame Mortar Support: copy SU Incendiary Artillery) would make both Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers a whole lot more useful. Otherwise I would say that Tactical Support needs a look at. I would say that a supply drop zone ability that drops resources in exchange for Manpower would be a good idea. In: Lobby |
Thread: New PC Build27 Oct 2017, 12:00 PM
I got a lot of help from this forum when building my PC, so I don't know if I can give any suggestions but I'll share what I learned. Thanks for your response! Okay, I'll let him know that he should be prepared to spend around 700USD! The MSI B250M seems to be a pretty solid board. My friend know little about PCs so I'm pretty sure he's not into overclocking or anything like that (if he decides to get a CPU replacement in the future) so I'd say this board would suffice. As I stated before, the exact Thermaltake PSU has worked pretty in the past, so I'll stick with what works. Of course, I do have a "backup" if my friend decides to throw more cash at his system: I'll get a LEADEX 450W. You have a valid point there. I'll propose a GPU upgrade to a 1050 Ti as well, since more CUDA cores and more VRAM is better in the long run. As I stated before, RAM is crazy right now. The price for a stick of DDR4-2400 jumped up by another 3 USD just today (6USD since I started planning the build a week ago!). I'm pretty sure budget restrictions will stop me from getting him another 8GB stick. My (supercharged toaster) computer runs on 2x 4GB, and CoH2 works fine for me. Besides, all we need to do is restart after every game! Thanks for sharing this part about your build. The Versa H15 has a detachable array for you to mount both an HDD and an SSD, so I think I'll be okay! Hi to all... Thanks for your response! I will let him know about the 1050Ti as an option, the 1060 is simply way too far out of budget. The CPU seems to be adequate for everyday gaming/surfing use (although, just like the GPU, I'll leave it up to my friend whether or not he wants a faster CPU). Also, I'm pretty sure he won't be doing anything productivity-related on his computer (aside from Microsoft Office) so I'd say that a single stick should suffice for at least two years. |
Thread: New PC Build27 Oct 2017, 00:55 AM
couple of things there i would change, but note that i know a lot about the european market and not others, so that might change things First off, thanks for the reply! Actually, I've been considering the i5-7400 instead, although that would make his build slightly over-budget. I'll look into an R3 1200 build (the vendor doesn't have R3 1300s for some strange reason), seems that it might be better. He has an old laptop, doesn't have a desktop. I would say that his gaming needs probably won't exceed the performance limitations of the GTX 1050 anytime soon; he doesn't really play any recent AAA titles. I've definitely considered the 1050Ti, but just like the better CPU, getting it might be a little over-budget. I've used the TR2 450W in a friend's build, so far it seems to be working pretty well. If not, I think I'll get a Leadex 550W. If he aims to play coh2, he should get more than 8GB of ram. Playing on high settings with such little memory is only possible if you turn off absolutely everything in the background. Also, why do you want him to use his memory in single channel? As for cpu I would look at benchmarks with older gaming cpus before buying that one. I wouldn't go for ryzen though as what you need in coh2 is per core power, not two more low performance cores sleeping. PSU is good enough IMO. First off, thanks for the reply! I've love to get more than 8GB, but DDR4 (acutally, RAM in general) pricing these days is pretty awful so I've had to abstain from a 16GB of RAM because it pushes the build over-budget. However, I have hope that sometime in the future (maybe 2 years?) that RAM pricing will go back down and he can pick up a second stick of 8GB. What CPU would you suggest instead? My friend is a casual gamer so I think it would be okay with either the G4560 or the R3 1200. |

Hi everyone, Recently my friend has come to me asking me to build him a gaming PC. His budget is about 600USD. Here are the parts that I have picked: CPU - Pentium G4560 Mobo- MSI B250M PRO-VH RAM - Transcend 8GB x1 DDR4-2400 SSD - Crucial MX300 275GB HDD - Toshiba 1TB GPU - MSI GTX 1050 2GB OC Case- Thermaltake Versa H15 PSU - Thermaltake TR2-450 PRO DVD - Lite-On 24x My friend aims to play CoH2, WoW, Oxygen Not Included, Total War Warhammer. Also because he has a ton of movie DVDs I included the DVD burner. Anything you would change/modify? Thanks in advance! |

Thread: [1v1] Crossroads OKW vs GB22 Oct 2017, 06:12 AM
If I understood correctly, these are the main points: 1. Flank better. Make deeper flanks, especially because OKW has no offensive smoke. 2. Get proper anti-vehicle hard counters earlier to support your units, don't rely on Panzerfausts. 3. Getting an leIG or two would have defeated the mortar pit in a less MP-intensive, and have more overall impact (e.g. against the trench, against ATGs, against the highly static Brit infantry) 4. Plant more mines. 5. Use tanks with low RoF (Panther, Heavies) defensively, against Churchills. I have a couple questions: - When would it become a good investment to get an leFH? If the Brit player goes full sim city? - If I had invested in a PaK 43 instead, would that have been a good idea? - When should you tech T1? Before Schwerer or after? In: Replay Reviews |
