To anyone wondering why mirror matches have to be balanced, I can just suggest that they look past the fact that both players have the exact same tools at their disposal and realize that in a mirror match some tools have to be balanced with tools that they otherwise wouldn't need to be balanced with.
In coh terms, each and every teching path of the wehrmacht has to be balanced with each and every other alternate tech choice. For example, tier 1>2>3 Wehr might be balanced vs tier 1>4 Ami, but would it be viable vs tier 1>4 wehr play? Probably not...
As foreign as the thought is, I would provide my consent to mirror matches, as long as the balance changes they require don't diminish the interplay of the Soviets and the Ostheer.
In any case, I deeply hope that the various commanders will provide enough variation to render mirror matches necessary in terms of added content. |
Kind of funny how there are dirt plumes at 1:20. |

As posters above me have stated, gaming headsets are rip-offs!
In any case, you should definitely go with open headphones for gaming, as they sound more natural and don't amplify your own voice. You can't go wrong with Ultrasone pro2900, HiFiMAN HE-400 (Rev. 2) or Akg k702, although I'd recommend the Ultrasones or HiFiMAN HE-400 (Rev. 2) for music listening. You'll need an amp/dac for such headphones as well; check the link for details on that. |
Na, I just took that with humor.
I think it has more to do with the fact that you didn't even address his suggestions. Just saying... |
thats not what i am saying, i am just saying that some of your replacements don't fit the original theme anymore. For example, that area you're desplaying should be a sandy working ground, while with your texture replacement it looks like some untouched rock. Who would build a sawmill on a rock?
The texture you made is certainly of high quality, but doesnt fit the scenario. Keep in mind when replacing textures, that they still have to serve the same purpose on the maps they've been used on.
And my second concern is, that your textures are too dominant. Within worldbuilder i have the option to use textures as a basis for my ground painting. Then i add all accents with splats/splines, which are of quite OK quality already in the original engine. The importance of splats is, that you can define accents quite precisely, while textures are unable to be placed precisely and can only be used as "paint".
Now that your texture replacements are so dominant, the precision of the splat accents is gone. What is left is only the big area texture, which is limited to the accents, which you included in your replacement.
You can see this at the road for example, which looks out of place, because the border which i have drawn with a splat is not visible anymore. To some less extend this also counts for the buildings, where the splats i put around it to make it blend into the map are not visible anymore.
Didn't test it on other maps, yet, so i am just speaking of what i see on Duclair.
There's no doubt that your textures are of higher quality, and the work you've put into the mod really shines through, but I'd have to agree with OnkelSam. There's a lot of potential in this; I would suggest you take OnkelSam's criticism constructively, as it was seemingly contrived out of sincerity. |
Wow I would love to just fly over and play. Lets hope some of us get in, who really want to help them out with the testing & for a chance to play. I assume Inverse is going... for what it's worth... |
They had issues with implementing Duclair 1v1 into the automatch rotation. This was because the name Duclair (2v2) was already in automatch.. Gave some weird issues appareantly. Egletons was in rotation for a while. That map had terrible balance though. It was unticked by many players and eventually taken out of rotation and never brought back in.
Thanks, mate! Just the kind of answer I was looking for. |
who wants to play 1v1 duclair anyways...
Haven't tried it enough to know whether it's good or not. More maps would add variation, and seeing as Duclair is made by UncleSam and Egleton is a tournament winning map, I thought they'd best suited.
@Crawler: "However, how come neither Duclair or Egleton is ever put into the rotation?" I suggest you should reread my initial post. |
i answered your question already
Afaik, Duclair and Egleton haven't been part of the list since 2.602's release, so no you haven't... |
Its not a bad idea to add new proven maps to the coh1 rotation, but anything that would take resources away from COH2 just isn't important. Yeah, it'd definitely be nice if Argentan Crossroads were to be added, but I'm talking about Egleton and Duclair, which that are already incorporated into patch 2.602, so it wouldn't require any additional resources to add them to the automatch list.
My question is simple: why aren't they in? |
