Became kind of a fan of this channel, very easy and entertaining to listen to. |
Hello everyone,
I very much like the game, but somehow I don't seem to be able to reach an acceptable level in playing it. I like to play 1v1 with OKW mostly, and have yet to choose a favorite allied faction (just not Soviets). At the moment my joy in the game gets kind of ruined by sucking at it without being able to do anything about it.
Therefore I am asking if there is anyone who could help me improve? I'm not aiming for top level play, just getting at an acceptable level as a 1v1 player.
My attempts so far (forums/casts/twitch/replays), although very entertaining, don't seem to change all that much.
My timezone is GMT+1 (Netherlands).

I recently realized that I don't really have an approach to my capping order. I play 1v1 on a fairly modest level, mostly with OKW and occassionally with USF. I feel I have to choose between blobbing my first units over the map capping relatively slowly but with enough units in case of an engagement, or spreading out my units and capping more but being in a bad position in case of an engagement due to my spread out units. With both options in the end being bad for my map control.
Can someone perhaps give me some insight on how to approach capping orders? |
I am in the same position as topic starter. At the moment, I hope the following approach will work for me:
- Always watch the replay of my own game, whether I win or lose. Try to see why different parts of the match went well for me (so I can repeat that) or went badly for me (and think what I should've done differently)
- Watching live games or casts or reading guides is quite entertaining and fun, but I find it hard to actually learn something. I do learn some stuff and see common build orders, but it doesn't really offer insight on why I lose certain matches.
- If I don't really see what went wrong or have specific question I use this forum.
- And, maybe, just acceptance that I am a lousy player. The ultimate goal is to have matches that I enjoy/feel good about. No matter what my level is, I think the matching system will try to get my win % around 50%. So looking at it from that perspective, it doesn't really help to get better since your opponents will also get better. And the mere fact of a high rank would be great, but I can also play perfectly enjoyable games without it. |
Hi there,
I have a couple of doubts on how to handle Semois(ky) Summer with OKW:
Capping order and use of sturmpio's
I am not sure where to send my sturmpio's best. Either to garisson the church directly without capping the territory in between and have the vg's cap the connecting territory or capping the territory up to the center island and wait for the vg's?
I usually only cap my own fuel once I feel I can spare a unit from the fight in the center. Perhaps it is better to have a vg squad capping it right away?
Truck placement
I set up my BGHQ usually at the territory point in the center, closest to my base. But I don't know where to put the Schwerer best? |
Just a game I happened to watch live. |
From what i've read and heard about it, one is supposed to be able to kick some butt with the earlym20.. But I find that not so easy to do, especially vs Ost since one faust already forces me to retreat it. Does someone perhaps know a good replay with someone executing m20 pressure well ? |
In general I like to build in any case 2 vg's, sometimes a kubel, 2 elite infantry units like jaegers of panzerfuss., an mg and one raketen. I build up my bghq after the second vg. Depending on the game I get a jagdpanzer or tech up to the schwerer. |
I'm about the same level as you, so no expert either, but I watched your replay. Actually you seem to be dominating early game and around the 18min mark you seem to lose control and the game snowballs to your disadvantage. Stuff like that happens to me too without explicitly knowing why, same as I dont always really know why I am winning.
But looking at your game I get the idea that the main cause was his harrassment and capping at your cutoff, forcing you to move your army around in a disadvantageous way and then losing control. Perhaps you should have gone more for his cutoff, more forcing him to fight at a spot that you want him to fight and him being in the defense instead of you. He has a lot to lose if he doesnt get his cutoff point back, but it's not so important for your own income.
An option could also be to stay longer at tier 2 and go for the JP. While it's shit versus infantry, it does cover your ass against most vehicles and can be of use for you the whole game as it's not so easily destroyed.
Lastly, you could also go for the commander that has the Ostwind and jaegers. That way you can stay even longer at tier 1 going for JP and Ostwind (so both anti infantry and anti armour) and thus saving the fuel needed for the Schwerer.
