FOR FUCKS SHAKE just had a game where a luckyt at nade frontally penetrated my tiger which was lost to fucking at guns , , WITH NO FUCKING DEFLECTIONS , what is this shit ,its the 3rd game in a fucking row where conscripts and t34s get lucky frontal penetrations against tigers , first they take out all of ostheers indirect fire and then they give soviet weapon teams 6 man crews give soviet atg indirect fire same cost and same damage as the ostheer ones , and you cant flank 2 atgs 2 maxims cons and schocks for no fucking reason especially in the late game after many squands getting 1shotted , by all that shit , srsly , as ostheer i fyou dont finish the game under 30 mins your essentially defeated
Hell no !!! They might be the best overall infantry unit in the game . They can kill most units head on , they can mow down units on retreat , they can flank like crazy and they can kill tanks too and if you activate the tactical movement then god help your opponent .
The only thing that i could agree to is to give them reinforcement cost/ model equal to schocktroops
unfortunately, this is a really common strategy for soviets now. like gunshy said, your best bet early on is some mortars. this is countered by the soviet mortars precision strike though, so be sure to move them after each barrage. if you can hold on long enough, panzerwerfers absolutely destroy weapon team spam.
too bad it wont come to that or in fact any t4 or late game unit , cause you ll be swamped with t3 units , and pg nades as well as riflenades rarely do the trick as the time it takes for a replacement gunner to come is negligible and not nearly enough for the squad to rise
Watch as a t34 frontally rams a tiger which was ignoring it despite repeatedly told to attack from max range , gets a successful ram causing both engine damage and destroyed gun , while the stupid plane decides not to kill an atg and a guard squad who procceed to kill the tiger ruining an otherwise relatively successful game , all in all if i had not gone for a tiger none of that would have happened . Can anyone explain how the bombs drop , cause right now it seems that as with most other things the bombing run from vcoh was much more precice than this stupid circle . Finally mgs can shoot while pinned , which completely stuypid as well .
MG42s are a tough subject for me. Sometimes they operate up to par, other times not so much. Whenever I have them setup on an open playing field, i.e. moscow outskirts, I usually am able to suppress two conscript squads coming at me head on, however if I'm getting flanked at the same time it's difficult to suppress the flanking squad, which is understandable as flanking is a key aspect of the game. I find MG42s work great though at defending key points, like camping them on fuel points or cutoff points, therefore stopping the soviet player from harassing you as often. I've come to the conclusion though that a very small increase in suppression would probably make the MG42 more reliable when using it in the game.
there is another thing von , if a conscript catches your mg not se up then you ll usually have to retrate it while the same thing doesnt always happen with the maxim as you can usually position it vey quickly
Maxims are not overpowered, easiest way to counter them is by getting a mortar or by going double mortar if he spams them like crazy, especially in 2v2. Since the German mortar has an increased fire rate maxims get taken out of buildings and while set up easily as the crew is pretty bunched up. A similar way to deal with maxims would be using the fht or by just spamming riflenades. I've tried maxims in both 1v1 and 2v2 and I can say without a doubt that they aren't as OP as some people say they are.
mortar can work against them but in my experience its mostly psychological , since it will force the maxim to move regardless if it hits ( cause even with LOS artillery seems random ) and thus allow the rest of your units to flank it
imo the suppression rates of the 2 mgs should be swapped or almost equalised with mg42 having more because it is super easy to decrew while maxim can take a riflenade easily and keep suppressing
