You want Hummel as a doctrinal or non-doctrinal unit?
Most factions have some sort of non-doc arty piece and some doctrinal ones. Still, keep in mind that OKW has a non-doc unit (the Stuka) which is so accurate that will largely overshadow Hummel.
Apart from that, the Soviets and Wehrmacht have immobile artillery pieces that by no means have the accuracy of Stuka. |
If I had to choose something for the Soviets I would say
TWEAK/FIX THE EXISTING UNITS
rather than adding new ones and leaving others to a "useless" state.
See the Soviet/Wehrmacht commander for example... They have many but a good portion of them are never used (while some are totally useless). |
So...
If unit X from faction 1 and unit Y from faction 2 have a really strong synergy that is hard to overcome, you propose we make unit X and Y close to junk so in case they work together the outcome will be manageable..?

The approach of using Maxim instead of Cons is simply wrong (...and boring).
Actually the Maxim is supposed to be there to support attacking Cons by dealing damage and suppressing the (superior) enemy infantry. Same with Penals if soviet is to go T1.
The fact that Maxim is, for many players, more preferable a replacement of Cons should alert Relic balance team!

Would like to see massive buff to penals instead. Cons are still good for their utility, cost, and durability in the late game, only thing the are lacking is firepower. That should be where penals come into play as a high dps stock unit to supplement conscripts, but they suck. Will fix two birds with one stone.
After reading your other post and followed the link to Vet Guide, I saw that some OKW infantry units actually not only negates but supersede the Vet3 -40% Received Accuracy of Cons.
Maybe buffing Penals might even the odds by divert the "focus" from Cons while letting Soviets having some stock infantry units that actually deal significant damage.
Conscripts are there to protect your damage dealing units and snare enemy tanks. They do this exceptionally well with having sandbags, oorah, AT nades and merge.

I feel that even at that role the Cons take quite many casualties in a rather short time. I can't tell if this is because Cons performance is too poor or the other mainline infantry performs too good ... maybe its a bit of both as well!

How Vet3 Cons are quite durable when their Veterancy, according to in-game tooltip, gives only offensive bonuses and Vet3 in particular increases weapon accuracy and mobility?
No matter what, the late game units like Grens w/ LMG, Falschimjaegers, Obers etc etc deal really heavy damage to Cons, even at Vet3. |
Soviets can be good enougth to play against other factions specially in 1vs1 if you play in a really specific way and thats the problem, they have the biggest amout of useles units, vet abilities, commanders. and in some cases they are straigth worst, like in air abilities with the suply drops or the il2 strafes, or the ninja buf of the stuka.

Flares, button, m42, kv1, kv2, shermanC (comes at cp10!), cap territory, all tier1, tier 4 not prepared for late game, hit the dirt, il2 atack and specially il2 single strafe, rapid conscripation, b4, the balanced katyusha (so balanced that its worst than every single roket artillery in the game) not upgradeable conscripts, granade side costs, ultra long animations for granades and penal charges.
And those are the worst ofenders a lot of units and abilities are in need of small adjustments.

I am obsessed with that ability, not because I like it that much but because its so plainly broken and easy to figure out its not working ...still no one bother to fix it for more than 2 years!!!

I used them maybe twice on abandoned weapons and seemed it kill some of the weapon's crew... I am not that sure and need to test it again.
Then again, having every single infantry type using Trip-wire flares is silly. The tank capping, while it might be of some utility, its more fitting to a T-70 while heavier tanks need something to boost their offense/defense (T-34 needs it!) rather than utility... |
If you talking about Cons durability WHY you always forgetting units size compared to other line infantry?
I may be wrong, but in early CoH2 Cons at Vet0 was with some recived accuracy debuff, like 20% more to hit them. Did they removed this or it's just my imagination here? Still not sure about this.
Who's forgetting unit sizes?
I, for one, mentioned that early game they are OK but when moving towards late-game they tend to die way easier to any other infantry, even if Cons are Vet3.
This is because enemy infantry comes with LMGs, MP44s (not to mention heavier weapons) while Cons durability remains unchanged which results into being dispatched rather fast. |
