I get those transitioning bug slats too, so I hear you. We got basically the same hardware. I just built a z170 based PC with an i5 Skylake 6600k CPU, 16GB ram, 970 GTX super overclock edition, and Sound Blaster Z card. And a new 32 inch 2k to enjoy it on. So as you say I'm overspeced for the game now. Max settings and it's sliky smooth. Yet I get spats in game, and as I transition from something like a replay back to main menu it goes haywire. Its pretty much embarrassingly sloppy programming. I can play SC2 all day, do whatever I want to it and not have an problem, if I cared to play SC2 that much. |
Something I wish Relic would do is just make it standard that your team is in the south. In this way one team isn't looking at the field backwards to begin with. I don't think it would have been to much trouble for them to have had 2 locked view orientations so that both sides start off with a 'normal' view. I really was expecting COH2 to have done that as standard. But that is polish that the game never got nor ever will at this point. |
I haven't used backspace since the first week of playing coh in 2006. 100% of the time I tweak the angle to my preference and hitting backspace would just erase my effort. Plus I'm always tweaking the angle during the match, because sometimes you just want to see further downfield for a second. |
You nailed it on the head with team games. Gezz if only my automatch team would just rotate the map so they are in the south as well. I have to remember that when my team says west to me its east if i had to turn the map. Not really that hard to keep track of however. And using pings makes it a non issue as well. |
Well ok then. No secret sauce lol. I just never seen a caster crash yet, so I thought it was rare for them, and just abnormally high for me. So you guys reboot often too... |
Ender's Game anyone? lol
I open with that statement because that is how I think of it when I chose my preferred map orientation. I want to see my enemy downfield always. That means I rotate the map into a standing diamond were my base will be at the south and the enemy is north. In this way, north feels like it's down field. To me that just makes sense and I thought everyone would be doing it, but no. From watching casts and playing team games I learned that others don't ever change the rotation. And I wonder why? Then it struck me. It's just habit from playing other RTS's that can't change the map rotation. In those games however, the map and landscape are created with a one directional viewpoint in mind. So everyone all see the same exact view. COH engine is miles ahead though and with that comes no 'correct' way to view the map. So it would make the most sense to turn the map so that mentally your enemy is downrange ie coming from the basic direction of the top of your screen. When I'm seeing this done by others, as I would do, it's more of just an outcome of the player position they got placed in, and not a deliberate tuning of the map rotation.
So you all know you can rotate the map to place the enemy downrange. I guess my question to you all is why don't you do it? It only takes a second.
My best guess is old RTS habit.
Next would be that you consider the map rotation option an unnecessary gimmick. SC2 doesn't need it right... that kind of thought
Next would be that you just find the map confusing and unfamiliar looking if you rotated it. Well it's not that hard to learn a second viewpoint of a map. When you do it often like I do, feeling familiar with a map from 2 perspectives comes about naturally. |
Do you guys have a name for the stick building bug I referred to? Just curios. |
I recently built a new PC that can now play this game at 2K max settings and easily holding 80+ FPS.
However, I still encounter the bug spat crash consistently. After about 3 games the odds go way up that COH2 will either give me that purple vehicle and stick building bug, or it crashes completely. So when I remember, I reboot my PC after every 3 matches. And no I don't even run background stuff. When I game, I run a very lean PC. Everything that can be off will be. So I would expect better stability than you guys because of that. But that doesn't appear to be the case. Casters obviously run with extra software going. Heck on of the guys had his facebook still up and running while casting COH2. I can watch you casters play match after match without a reboot. Is there some soft of stability program you are running? I don't know of one. I've been through 3 computer rebuilds since COH2 came out, and crashes have been present in each one. If it was just happening to my current build I would suspect bad hardware. So guys how do you manage to keep the game running stable while you stream for long periods? |
I recently switched from a 28 inch 16:10 display 1920x1200 to the Acer B326HUL 32 inch 16:9
I wanted the sharper rez 2560x1440 offered. I was hoping to find a good price for a 16:10 2560x1600 but that was impossible, so I had to 'downgrade' on total viability to get the sharper rez.
The point I'm getting at is that since I have had experience with a 16:10 layout I find it far better for all uses, games, surfing, productivity. And from what I read online basically everyone agrees that has spent time with a 16:10. As it relates to COH it allowed me to see further down field. This verticle extension of your vision is IMHO better than going extra wide. As others have said extra width doesnt give you any advantage because 16:9 is already more than wide enough. It's the 9 going to 10 in this ratio that gives the most useful stretch to your game field of view.
So all in all I'm missing the 16:10 ratio, but love the 2k rez I now have. Now I just have to cross my fingers for an affordable 2k or 4k 16:10 that is at least 32 inches. |
The replays turning out different each time I suppose is due to things like rag doll physics and vehicle explosions having different animation effects randomly generated. |
