I like to combine it with soviet sniper. Sniper with faster rate of fire is pretty cool. |
I also do not see the reason to make ppsh on penals more common, it's not super useful.
Well, that's the point. It's not strong and doesn't change much, so why not just do it. Giving Grenadiers g43 in majority of cases is a downgrade or a sidegrade at best, but still having the option to do it if you want to is nice. |
Its probably too late now for any suggestions because the patch is probably ready for release, but here's to future changes.
In the patch, both cons and penals will benefit from conscript repair package. This is a great change which adds versatility without making the ability too strong. It would be nice if conscript assault package got the same treatment where it would give access to ppsh for both cons and penals. Wehrmacht already has jaeger light infantry upgrade which affects grenadiers, panzergrenadiers and stormtroopers which is awesome and I don't see a reason why soviets shouldn't get the same privilege.

Replacing PPSH with SVT upgrade would be thematic fit since I believe SVTs were the more advanced rifle that never got fully rolled out by the end of the war. Would be nice to have SVTs in more than one commander though SVT and Premium Medium might be a bit much lol. DSHK instead of either PPSH or Repairs also comes to mind but then you have overlap with Lend Lease if it replaces PPSH (Repairs, DSHK, and Premium Medium). I wouldn't totally discount Advanced Warfare though since PPSH are getting buffed and that will help distinguish it from Armored Assault.
It distinguishes from Armored Assault, but now compare it to Guard Rifle Combined Arms. Both have doctrinal medium, PPSh and strafe. The difference is Advanced Warfare also gives you Radio Intercept and Cons repair while Guard Rifle Combined Arms also gives you Guards and Howitzer and I think everyone would prefer the latter. |
Since the commander update is in the works, this might be the best time to bring this topic up. As of now this commander got some buffs in IL-2 strafe, PPSh and Conscript repair kit (now also works on penals). These buffs certainly improve the commander but the main problem with this commander is still present. It is vastly overshadowed by Armored Assault Tactics and Guard Rifle Combined Arms Tactics. It is weaker than both these commanders while having almost the same kit.
This commander could really use a new identity so it differs from the other two. Perhaps swap PPSh upgrade for something else ? I have also noticed in the updated art, the commander is wearing 1943 uniform so maybe it could get M-42 AT guns instead. Opinions ? |
Expected more changes tbh. Patch overall looks good except for the unnecessary Osttruppen buff and the new commander portraits are dope |
I feel like too many Soviet commanders have the ppsh upgrade. To add more variance, my suggestion is to replace Conscript Assault Package ability in the Advanced Warfare Tactics with the Weapon Crate Drop ability ( from Soviet Airborne Tactics). With the tweaks to Weapon Crate Drop, I think it won't make the commander too good just better. |
I think preventing Vickers K drop is too much baby sitting. It is a change directed specifically towards very rare scenarios where teammates share weapons. You are nerfing THE PLAYER by limiting control, not THE GUN.
I think chasing little unintended features and strategies takes way too much time and is futile because there are way too many unintended features in this game.
Going after usf vehicle sharing, M4 Sherman dozer upgrade exploit, and other similar unintended features will take forever and feels silly from the balance team to go after.
A lot of this is very rare and benefits teamwork and coordination. I see these exploits as a good thing not a bad thing. Dropping a Vickers K for your soviet teammate should be rewarded because the UKF player is looking out for his teammates.
A OST player dropping a med bunker on a Mechanized OKW player is a similar scenario. You don't want to somehow prevent this exploit because it is unintended.
No, it should be rewarded.
Don't kill creativity in the game. That is where balance team should draw the line. Very few people are happy to see halftrack Vickers drop being nerfed. This is an incredible blow to the incentive to buy this halftrack.
Balance team should focus on balancing units themselves, not considering rare scenarios of things happening. It is very silly.
"We have changed X because in these rare circumstances it can be used in an unintended way." I think this is extremely silly because there are a million unintended things you can do and thus futile.
Tldr don't nerf strategies, coordination, creativity, or power/control of players. Nerf the tools instead. You can nerf the Vickers, but don't remove ability for players to share them, that is specifically removing player control and coordination which is almost always bad design.

Great V2 notes!
Would also like to see Penals getting an alternative upgrade for AI ( maybe 7man ? ) and making Conscripts nade side tech cheaper and it's a 10/10 change to soviets from me. The only thing I dislike are the sniper changes. |
