Well, I mean you usually have at least one or two units providing vision when you drop that down
You also usually have conscripts of something that can snare, as well as other abilities to like flares or overflight to maintain vision. |
I have been seeing AT over watch commanders more often recently and so I have been encountering the AT over watch ability more frequently. It is insanely powerful, the first time I encountered it I was astonished by how much damage it does to even the heaviest of vehicles. First off it is very cheap for what it does, it costs the same as Stuka close air, but it can target all the tanks in the circle and obviously it cannot be shot down like Stukas can, so there is no counter to it. I know that vision is required to maintain fire, but vision can be had with overflight, flairs or you can even sacrifice a couple infantry squads for the cause to maintain vision. Secondly and what I think is most egregious is how fast the ramp up time is. It shoots faster and faster so quickly that something like an Elefant has no chance to escape, and if you're tanks are close together and the map is narrow then you can say goodbye to several of your tanks as they try to path find their way away. Even if you manage to escape the barrage without losing anything all your tanks will be so weak that the inevitable tank push that fallows will kill whatever survived. I'm not saying that AT Over Watch is an "I win button" but when used properly it can shred any German tank force and leave you extremely vulnerable very late in the game.
I think there are a few things that could be done to try and balance this ability. An obvious solution would be to just increase the price. I don't think this would solve the problem though, Even if it was 300 muni I think it would still be a no brainer to use and building a few muni caches will still allow you use it with relative frequency. I think the best solution would be to slow the ramp up time. I know it is an ability to punish a stagnant front line of tanks, but even when you move it is extremely damaging. I think a damage debuff could also be an effective solution. I just feel like this ability shouldn't be able to destroy a heavy tank all on it's own when other AT attacks have no chance of doing so.

Just got absolutely obliterated by the B4 in a 4v4. We were doing well in the early game but once the B4 was out it was a slow and agonizing bleed of squads and manpower. Made it impossible to keep a forward reinforce point or OKW truck alive. None of us had a large off map call in like a stuka bomb though because we were unprepared by how strong the B4 was. I think something definitely needs to be done to nerf it, as it stands its just an ML20 that shoots nukes. Maybe turn it into an anti tank weapon? |
So far I have not had this problem since I have asked the party host to wait 30 seconds to search after I load in so I would say that was the problem. Thank you for the advice! |
When playing with friends, it sometimes happens when the host starts searching too quickly before someone joins the lobby. If it's happening to you when solo, maybe try waiting a few seconds to hit search.
Thanks for the tip I'll ask the guys I play with to wait a few seconds to search. |
This has been happening to me randomly for the last year but within the last couple months or so it has gotten even worse. I'd say close to 1/5 games now I start a match with no commanders, bulletins or skins. What's strange is that I don't believe it is a computer problem as I recently upgraded to an entirely new PC. Has anyone else had this problem or know if there is anything I can do to fix it? |
The only way to make Jeager and VSL upgrades viable is to remove any bonuses to RA or stats and merge them across all commanders, go back to 5 men grenadiers with a G43
I'd like to see a return of the 5 man G43 grens, although I understand why they changed it. Maybe instead of the special VSL G43 with insane retreating wipe potential they could just give him a regular G43. |
I think all flairs should increase nearby unit vision for a time instead of giving the player vision over the whole area. |
The idea of splitting 1v1,2v2 and 3v3,4v4 is interesting and would probably make for a more balanced experience. I don't think that will happen at this stage in the game when its 10 years old and the player base is so small. Best advice I can give you for 4v4 as Allies is to spam artillery. Axis has no great way to respond to that. Lefh 18s are all but useless in that situation since they can't move and will be erased by Sextons or Priests, not to mention they are losing counter barrage soon. Calis are tanky and not easily killed by a diving P4 like Katys are. Stuka close air is a good solution unless one or two of you invests in AA. The best solution so far for Axis is the new Jaeger armor strafe, but that relies on the ally player not paying attention. Allies spamming artillery in 4v4 gives me and every other Axis player I know a headache. The only way to stop it is to prevent the Allies from getting it in the first place so winning the early game for Axis is key. |
