Anyone have any good ones? Where you win vs double sov or Brit/Sov?
US is easier I find. They're good but the micro skill needed to manage multiple Scotts and all that high-reinforce cost infantry is still worse than for Brits or Sov so generally you can take advantage of any mistakes easier.
I cannot figure out how to beat decent Brits though, with those 5 man squads, backed by at guns, backed by that flak tank. Soviet is obviously just a cheesefest, but if you can flank a few maxims or get a sniper, it's manageable. If you don't you lose. But at least I know it's theoretically possible and how to beat Sov. Brit is just still too big a problem for me, OKW infantry is just too weak imo. Last game, I had stuka, had puma, had KT. Basically I Find I just have nothing to flank with or break their lines that's worth a damn. Stuka is next to useless, puma same vs at guns and the at rifles. I just don't get it. I can manage with Ostheer against top 100, I can't even beat rank 200+ people anymore with OKW.
Have your mates get in random queue at the same time. Or because the playerbase is so low, just wait for a good 2v2 streamer to search and try to play with him. If you're vaguely in the same bracket, there's a good chance of being matched (ie., since there is no one else queuing in top 50, a top 50 player will get matched with a top 500).
In COH1 people would rank in 2v2 by counting bars, you could literally figure out if you were in the same game before the match start bars filled. Can't do that in COH2 as far as I know but you can stack the odds.
Long, long ago, in a parallel universe far away, I advocated for mirror matches as being an interesting test of skill.
The idea of even shoutcasting some competitive mirror matches was roundly denounced by the community as a sacrilege - with some justification, the game was not balanced for mirror matches. On the other hand, all things being literally equal, a mirror match should provide the best indicator of skill in the game. As they have in many other RTSes.
So thank you, AE, for cashing in on years of community support and respect to finally make this a reality and for shoutcasting these games. I'm watching with great enthusiasm.
I think they're fun. I do think Soviet vs. Soviet could make for some of the most interesting RTS gameplay ever, and I look forward to seeing this matchup and hope it happens - at least, if you didn't hate watching COH1 games where the countersnipe was pretty much the gamechanging moment. I do think a 1v1 tournament of Sov vs. Sov would be epic fun, given the faction's general predominance over the years.
I think it comes down to game sense and micro skill.
At an intermediate to high level of skill, Allies are easier...
OKW comes down to being super skilled with raketen positioning and cloak use then avoiding squad wipes, and then blobbing at the right moments.
The problem is each tier has one super good unit that you CANNOT lose. If you can handle microing a lot of infantry and babying that one unit (Luchs or flak HT) then you might win. Watch Troy's stream, he's pretty good at playing OKW, aggressive at first and then turning super defensive until you have enough vet to beat semi-superior allied infantry.
Soviet in particular is much more forgiving in terms of squad wipes, since you're not going to win the game with your infantry, but with tanks anyway. Similar to OKW, babying your sniper will win you the game but I find it's not AS bad to lose that sniper as an OKW vehicle.
Generally I find because of the crappy support weapons you need to have about 25% better micro to beat a similarly skilled Soviet player. You just get too punished from staying in losing battles or squad wipes with OKW.
Hilarious game, one of the best I've played lately for fun factor.
I just played Sov the way I like to play, making daring flanks, throwing unit preservation to the wind, dangerous tank capping. Some things worked some didn't.
People play too conservatively now, Soviet does work really well when you just fly your freak flag and keep enough fuel to pump more t34s. I switched to t34s at the end in case of a heavy that needed swarming...
Sniper dies to OP Brit off map I didn't notice. I didn't care cuz Churchill.
Lol of a game, check it out.
If I'd known they were the a 28 ranked AT team I probably wouldn't have played like that, but I didn't have CELO up...
Lol, I know that video was from 2013, read original post please. It's my video.
Well, if it's a cover/no cover issue, that should be fixed, expensive bundled grenades should not do that little damage. And maybe change the arc back to the way it was on release, they're really damn hard to flank now, best you can do is get a nade in and retreat. They're just too durable.
I'm just playing Sov to troll now anyway. I can't believe I'd ever say this, but US and Brit feel a lot more balanced now.
But Sov has been OP from release, it never seems to change. They've always got something. It's the cheese faction, but it used to be the cheese was more high risk/reward, now they're just a very good combined arms army with crucial edges over all the other factions.
I can't take it anymore. They're indestructible. Someone watch this stupid game and tell me how 3 man half health maxims repeatedly take bundled nades to face, refuse to die in the face of vet falls fire, and just keep coming back like gren zombies from COH1.
That's stupid. Forced to go into a doctrine just for having a CHANCE to win the early game in team game is serious design fault. That need to be fixed for sure.
All games have a meta dude, if that's the most effective thing to do to solve your problem in 3v3/4v4, then do it. There have been useless commanders since day 1, but really when they released it there were more viable ones (I was a Joint Ops fan for a long time, lol.)
I'm hoping with your knowledge of the inner workings of COH2, you can verify something for me.
I've been playing since beta. I have an embarrassing number of hours in the game so I hope this observation bears some weight.
Vehicles that are destroyed in enemy base sectors are more likely to abandoned, perhaps by as much as a factor of 2x, than vehicles on the main field.
I just had two get abandoned in a 3v3 in enemy base sectors while I was screwing around. Two. The odds of that are pretty small.
I've had this suspicion since about 6 months after release, but no one's ever verified, or really commented on it except me and maybe one or two others I know.
I want it verified. It happens WAY too often to be coincidence. I've always thought of it as a hidden comeback mechanism the designers stuck in the game - enemy gets cocky, raids your base, their tank gets killed and becomes a tool you can use to get back in the game.
I could be wrong. It could have something to with damage from small projectiles, PTRS and zooks, for example making it more likely because there's not enough damage to completly wreck the tank, resulting in abandonment. Thus when base raiding your tank may die to those, not AT guns per se.
