My question is: after you upgrade your Ostruppen soldiers with the MG42, what do they compare to in terms of vs. units?

Osttruppen with lmg42 are comparable to a conscript squad, maybe slightly more firepower if they are behind cover. Their lmg42 is comparable to a DP1928

This is exactly why I think that Ostruppen should have a different LMG upgrade. I have suggested multiple times that Osttruppen should use BREN guns, BARs and DP-28s to represent ZB vz. 26, 27, 30 and 33 Czechoslovakian captured guns (the design that would become the BREN Gun), Polish Browning wz.1928 (BAR copies) and Russian captured DP-28s.
The Germans captured lots of these guns and issued them to rear area troops such as Ostruppen.
By using a different weapon there would be less confusion by players as to why Ostruppen LMGs are vastly weaker than Grenadier MG42s.
Replace the LMG42 upgrade with “Captured LMG”. More historical accuracy and more importantly it is easier to understand why Ostruppen LMGs have different performance.

Ostruppen are pretty decent in my perspective but are not an offensive tool and in the defensive need support,
in a defensive scenario their numbers and in green cover can hold the line sometimes, longer than the standard granadier squad, they just cost 200 manpower and are easier than replace than the Granadiers.,make them a great "Sponge damage infantry" and also very good to re crew fallen support weapons.
But they cannot decide a combat on their own., they are just great to put fire over moving units from safe cover and put them to fight., in the meantime give you time for mortar fire direction, MG42 placement a PAK40 coming to the rescue and the osttruppend firing their panzerfaust. A real defensive unit.
MG42 give them nice boost in damage but must be vet2 to be truly effective. and if i attack with osttrupen is because i can give them enough support., or i am desesperate.

I agree it can be confusing, Mabye they could add a UI indicator much like Ranger bazookas, Commando brens or Paratrooper bazookas to indicate to players their inefficiency with the weapon if they do not implement a new weapon.
