PGren G43

Wish I'd have read this entire thread last night. Tried a game this morning using PGren/G43 and they got minced by mass Con/PPsh!

If they have ppsh, why upgrade g43 on panzer grens at all? Cons closing in on Pgrens are going to get destroyed by mp44s.

if you have a panzeshreck squad and you want them to be effective long range (like the panzershrecks are), you upgrade them with g43's

pgrens with schrecks you want g43. if you are not getting shrecks then stay with mp44. grens always g43.

G43s cut snipers down pretty quickly in a straight shootout.

It's pretty hilarious. I would have laughed if it wasn't my sniper.

I've noticed that after you upgrade with the standard gren gun it still allows you to upgrade with the g43. But they don't get both guns, correct?

"Standard gren gun" in a topic about Panzer Grenadier G43s is very vague.

I'll assume you mean normal Grenadiers and LMG42 upgrade. If you get them both upgrades, they will have both weapons - you need to remember that G43 upgrade only gives them to two members of the squad (not all).
So if you upgrade grenadiers with LMG42 and G43, you'll have in squad: 1x Kar98, 2x G43, 1x LMG42

None of the suggestions were particularly compelling or good reasons to upgrade g43s in panzer grens. If you want a long range platform, you build grens. Lmg42 is non doctrinal and offers superb medium and long performance without having to lock into a commander.

G43s on a shreck squad seems absolutely pointless. You invested 120 munitions into at; you are going to want to keep that investment away from any infantry and either build another panzer gren squad or cover it with grens.

You pay 360 mp for extremely high close dps; why would you then pay extra to swap the extreme dps for acceptable long range when you can get that long range performance on a cheaper platform (grenadiers) that isn't even doctrinal?

It would be like building mp44 assault grens as panzer elite for 360 mp and then spending another 70 munitions to up that to g43 when you could've just upped the regular panzer grens with g43.

Unless of course you're already winning and have free munitions lying around; or have a 'gotta upgrade them all' compulsion.

I dont presume to know whether its true or not, but I suspect G43s being upgradeable on PGrens was an accidental oversight that just sort of "stuck".

Since it doesn't really harm balance, and an advantage it may offer to PGrens is so marginal and situational, as well as pretty much crippling their assault function, its just sort of "there" for flavor.

Pretty benign and not a problem, but why not.

That is why I think it's there, 'flavor'. Unless they originally intended panzer grens to receive superior g43s and either forgot or reversed the choice. The panzer gren g43 files are not currently used by anyrhing.
