Early Panzer IV Counter?

The way the factions are setup, Wehrmacht will nearly always catch you off guard with a Panzer IV, it will always become availble before you can get out any armor and is better than any armor you might get out immediately after it. You can't go CPT because then you can't control blobs so AT guns are out of the question. LT only offers the expensive weapon rack side grade. Bazookas aren't going to stop a P4 rush. Doesn't seem like you can do much here.

I don´t think the weapon racks are expensive at all. It´s not like you have a choice anyways unless you go for a doctrine with M1919. Even without Captain you can still get 1-2 double Zook RE, airdrop in an AT-gun and use mines/AT nades to stall the effectivness of the P4 until you get your own tank/TD out. The key is not bleeding too much manpower, which can be hard. If the time until Jackson is too long you should probably just forget about the Major anyways, go for CPT and 1-2 AT-guns and stall for Pershing.

If you're talking Panzer IV rush, you've got plenty of time to get double bazooka REs out even if you've gone Lieutenant.

Furthermore, if they're not deploying lights, you can get some serious map control with the AAHT.

There is no magic to it, you need to get an anti-tank gun before the 10 minutes mark, with any allied faction.

Well that's kind of a tall order with USF.

not really i find myself going both officiers as usf most of the games skipping light vehicles.
If you go for aaht though Keep airborne/recon or Pershing in your back Hand and you should be fine.
Weapon racks is a must buy anyway. Riflemen might be weak at vet 0 but they have amzing scaling use that.
I got to rank 18 as usf 1vs1 without Building light vehicles so it seems like a valid strategy (at least for most Players). If you have any more Questions feel free to ask me.

But as Fazit with the tech changes to come this thread is basically a non issue IMO.

Don't even bother with LT vs WM, M1 and pack howies are way too good to not have it, and you probably won't be facing infantry blobs to justify needing .50 cal

Pack Howizters suck and never hit anything and all OKW ever does is blob but Wehrmacht may not always.

If you pick a doctrine with field defenses, you can lay a few mines with your riflemen.

There can be a profound cooling effect on your opponent rushing/diving your positions if they know you've laid mines. If you've chosen a commander with Assault Engineers or have decided to get an M20 (which may soon be much more viable) you can do the same.

This doesn't work against the AI though, mind you. There's no mind games to be had there.

A double bazooka RE squad can be a strong enough deterrent in a pinch.

The thing about a panzer 4 rush is that your main counterplay is slowing down axis fuel income. Delay the P4 as best you can. I mean, you should always be trying to slow down your opponent's fuel income, but if you haven't seen any sort of light vehicles from your opponent, you should set up a few counter measures. Even a few tank traps can be useful sometimes and don't distract much from a mountain axis infantry blob.

The less time the P4 has to operate before you can get a Jackson the better. It may not be possible to stop your opponent from rushing a P4, but you can certainly minimize the impact it can have.
