Apparently in the fallout 76 beta your character runs faster if you have a higher framerate. Pay to win on a whole new level.
Yeah

The game engine is tied to the physics like in Skyrim/Fallout 4, so when you go over the 60FPS it goes bonkers.
So people with like 1080TI/2080 turned off the vsync via the ini files and just looked down and were able to run faster.

I could hardly be arsed to try it if it's free but I might give it a chance. No way in hell I'm preordering for access, though.

So is the beta only for people who have preordered? Or can anyone join it?

You can preorder from amazon, they will send you the beta key in 24 hours.
Then cancel the preorder

Bethesda has said it will be fixed for full release.
Will be interesting to see how they do it.

They are going to remove the option to disable vsync in the ini.
Fallout 4 still has issues if you run it at more than 60 fps. It's a problem inherent with their ancient engine.

So how about some more personal impressions? I'd like to know what you betaplayers have thought about it.
The multiplayer is much less important than I thought it would be.
The map is so big you really don't see other players unless you are looking for them. It seems to me that most people will play the game solo and then group up to have some co-op fun doing the harder group quests before going back to solo again to explore.
The map is also more interesting, I hated the fo4 map. In fo4 you started in the corner with nothing interesting around for kms, exploring was unrewarding except for scrap and generic fighting. Locations in fo76 seem more varied with more stuff to do. A lot of unique locations, most of them have some kind of quest or unique weapons/loot. The map reminds me a lot of fallout 3, really interesting setting with good variety. Fun to explore, even though it was shallow.
If you like exploring then the game is good. I was skeptical but I turned out to like it. If you only liked new vegas and not fo3 or 4 you will hate this. Bethesda's writing was always pretty trash. Removing the npcs isn't so much of a big deal when they can focus on what they are actually good at.
Some problems though, it's really apparent how old the game engine is with the multiplayer environment. The UI is incredibly terrible. It was okay in their last few games because you could pause, but now you can't. Imagine trying to navigate pipboy menus in real time to use chems during a fight. Horrible. There is also a 60 fps lock on pc tied to the physics engine. All the same bugs that were in previous games are still here, except now you can't use console commands to get around them.
